It's Official!
Arnold Senior Center Reopens June 28th!

Monday, June 28, 2021 is the day we've been waiting for! The Center has been closed for a long 15 months, and we have missed everyone!

Here's what you need to know about our reopening:

  • We will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am -12:00 pm, close for lunch and sanitizing of the building, then reopen again from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Seniors are encouraged to go and get lunch during during the hour that the building is closed.

  • As of this writing, masks are still required inside the building at all times. This may change by June 28th.

  • Use of key tags will resume to check in each day. If you have lost your key tag and/or you need to update any information on your membership form, please come to the front office. When you use your key tag to check in upon entering the building, on the sign-in screen, you will be required to acknowledge that: 1. You are not exhibiting any signs of sickness; 2. You have not been exposed to anyone with COVID19.

  • Nutrition Services (lunch) is not available at the Center at this time, and subsequently, there is no eating allowed in the building. Seniors are allowed to bring their own water, and our water fountains will be available to refill your water bottles

  • Classes and workshops are being offered at the Center throughout the summer FREE of CHARGE, but registration is required. Please see the class offerings listed below.

  • The Exercise Equipment Room will be open for use.

  • Additional activities, such as card playing, Mahjongg and Bingo will be scheduled on specific days and times during the week.
SUMMER CLASSES AT ARNOLD SENIOR CENTER

Knitting & Crocheting with Sallye Silesky
Mondays, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Learn to plan, draw, cut & sew traditional quilting patterns. Beginning students will work on patterns provided by the instructor. Advanced students will work on individual projects with instruction. Participants need to supply fabric (a total of 1/2 yard of various colors and patterns), scissors, ruler, pencil, pen & a thimble All skill levels welcome.

Chair Yoga with Sharon Harty
Mondays, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

This is primarily a seated yoga class. We spend quite a bit of time using dynamic yoga poses to lubricate the joints and strengthen the muscular system. The yoga poses help to alleviate tightness in the tendons and ligaments. They help create better alignment, to support optimal functioning and relief of pain. We will learn new poses as the weeks progress, and many poses will be repeated to create continuity and comfortable adaptation. To create a feeling of contentment we strive to teach modifications of the poses if necessary for individual students. Yoga breathing techniques can help to reduce anxiety, depression, and create an ease that compliments the stabilization that the poses provide for the body. There are also some techniques to help quiet the mind and create a restful heart by learning little bits of the art of mindfulness. 
Tai Chi with Sean Martial
Mondays & Wednesdays, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

This is a beginner Tai Chi class. Tai Chi is a Chinese exercise system that uses slow, smooth body movements to achieve a state of relaxation of both body and mind. As a system of physical exercise used to improve and maintain health, Tai Chi can be helpful in achieving a state of physical and mental relaxation while also strengthening the cardiovascular and immune systems.
Armchair Exercise with Fabiola Forste
Mondays, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Fabi will help you gain muscular endurance, balance and flexibility with gentle and easy to follow exercises that will help you function better in your daily life. She will safely guide you through these using your own body weight and small physio balls. Much of this class is done with the assistance of a chair . This class is suitable for beginners.
Card Playing
Mondays, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This time is for open card playing at the Center. Please bring your own cards. A maximum of (4) card tables will be provided in a designated space.
Aerobics & Weights Exercise Class
Wednesdays, 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Weights will add to the fun of blending aerobic activities and strength training! No complicated choreography…just a basic, intense workout! Taught by Akiko Stefanovich. NO FEES!
Traditional Hand Quilting with Sallye Silesky
Wednesdays, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

In this class, quilters of all types and experience levels will gain valuable insight from expert Sallye Silesky into traditional and modern hand quilting styles and techniques. Learn the different stitches, plus tips on choosing stencils and marking your quilt. New quilters will need to bring scissors, ballpoint pen, pencil and ruler. NO FEE!
Int./Adv. Line Dancing with Ann Gross
Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 11:00 am

If you have some experience in line dancing and would like a challenge, this class is for you! It is geared towards the intermediate to advanced level and includes more modern or new dances. Ann incorporates a wide variety of music and dance from country western, hip-hop, pop, disco and even alternative! Sure to keep you on your toes! NO FEES!!
Historic Disasters Class with Diane Duray (Four Part Series)
Wednesdays, 7/7/21 to 8/18/21 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This class will explore the effect that disasters have on society, the environment, politics and individuals and how future governmental policies may be shaped by those disasters. The disasters covered in the class will fall into different categories such as natural, man-made and biological.
 
Class 1: will cover Man-made Disasters: Sinking of the Titanic and the Triangle
Fire in New York
 
Class 2: will cover Biological Disaster: The Plague and other biological
epidemics
 
Class 3: will cover Natural Disasters: Pompeii which was destroyed by the
eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the Dust Bowl in the West.

Class 4: will cover Natural Disasters: Japan Tsunami and Katrina
Beginning Line Dancing with Ann Gross
Wednesdays, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The purpose of the class is to inspire movement, fun, creativity and introduce dancers to some of the easier popular dances within social line dancing. Dancers also learn basic steps and terminology. Have fun in this free class!
Mahjongg
Wednesdays, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This time is for open Mahjongg playing at the Center. Mahjong or mah-jongg is a tile-based game that is commonly played by four players. Please bring your own tiles. A maximum of (4) card tables will be provided in a designated space.
Bingo
Fridays, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Who doesn't love Bingo?! Come and sit a spell while having fun and trying to win at this game of chance. Bingo cards and nominal prizes will be provided. In the spirit of fairness, each player may only redeem one prize per day.
Aerobics with Dottie Conway
Fridays, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Come try this fun dance fitness class for a whole body workout! This fitness class is even for the non-dancer as each student works at their own level. Class begins with a warm-up and stretches. Class includes a variety of aerobic dance routines. The class ends with a cool-down, a few strength training exercises and a stretch.

WORKSHOPS AT ARNOLD SENIOR CENTER
Button Art Workshop
Wednesday, July 14th from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

If you are looking for an original project for your wall or mantel that’s easy to make, this Flamingo button canvas art will do the trick! Using buttons and other embellishments, button art can be so relaxing and the results are really impressive. Each project is it's own creative masterpiece! This is a FREE workshop and all supplies will be provided (please feel free to bring your own buttons, too!). Taught by volunteer artist Terri Nolan.
Sewing Workshops
Mondays, 9:00 am - 11:45 am

Looking for a small but fun sewing project to do this summer? Then look no further! Our favorite sewing instructor, Pauline Senk, has come up with sewing projects to add color and fun as well as function to your kitchen for each month this summer! All you need is one yard each of three coordinating fabrics, and she will show you how to do the rest! The rest of the sewing supplies will be provided for you. Here is the schedule of projects:
