The mobile phone has become the new “vox populi,” the voice of the people. It is an indispensable tool that we use to document our daily lives and experiences. The objective of the “What’s In Your Hand” workshop is to use the cell phone to create still-life assemblage art with objects that are important to your personal life and history. We will create a “selfie narrative”, by placing flat and three-dimensional objects in your hand, and photographing the composition with your cell phone.

Prior to the workshop participants are asked to create a grab bag of essential biographical elements: library cards, a favorite t-shirt, toys, keys, text, rings, and bracelets. The workshop will experiment with available light, flash, sunlight, and black and white images. We will also explore editing techniques with your phone’s editing system, and share our work virtually during the session.
