Dear Friends,

We trust and hope that this message finds you safe and well and having enjoyed another week of summer. We have been sending out these letters since mid-April and are grateful to all of you for giving us the opportunity to stay in touch and for always being a source of inspiration, especially this season. Last week we had the heartwarming pleasure of welcoming back several family groups that have been coming to the resort for generations. Taking the time to visit and catch up, sharing stories from years ago as well as today, and reflecting on memories makes us realize how important it is to take the time to pause, connect, and re-connect. The word that springs to mind is gratitude. The definition of gratitude is ‘the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.’ It does not take much effort to be grateful, it just takes the right mindset. It requires far less energy to be thankful and kind than it does to harbor anger, resentment and frustration. Under normal circumstances the world can be a crazy place and quickly toss us a curve ball causing our lives to shift, and the events as of late have clearly illustrated just how true this is as we never fully know what lies ahead. It is not always easy to keep your spirits high, and you surely do not have to climb the tallest mountain each day, but try to keep your energy positive and a sense of gratitude about you. Make the effort to stay in touch, to connect with someone, to do something kind for someone else simply because it will make their day a little brighter, not because you expect to get anything in return. It will indeed be worth the effort and the universe will pay you back tenfold. Keep it moving.

At the resort we have so much for which we are grateful. While we have had to re-schedule many of our programs this season, work extra-long hours to satisfy new guidelines, adjust reservations and shift gears more often during the days than usual, we are fortunate that our doors are open and we are able to welcome guests. Many businesses have had to close down as a result of the pandemic, so we remain forever thankful to all of you for finding your way to Dillman’s this year for your peace of mind, for building on the memories and for paying the positive energy forward. For letting us provide you with the environment to find your moments. And for those of you who will not be able to make it to the Northwoods this season, we will be here and look forward to your arrival when the time is right.

This week we are grateful for fireside chats with friends, monarch butterflies hatching and finding their way, summertime flowers offering their pollen to the bees, beautiful sunsets and rainbows after a thunderstorm, mushrooms appearing in the forest, star filled skies, vintage tiger lilies in bloom, puppies and children becoming friends, peaceful misty mornings, pastel colored crescent moon rises, and the 80,000 fingerling walleyes that were recently released in the lake by the Lac du Flambeau Fish Hatchery.

Our gratitude to you always and thank you for being a part of our family.

Sue, Denny, Steph, Todd, Scott and James

Ever wonder what the gate at Estate Lane used to look like?
Sauntra and Jerry Loar found a photo from the 1960's taken of the gate before a delivery truck misjudged the clearance and took down the span.

The 4 and 5 day workshops are offered in lakeside art studios as well as plein air. Students are invited to bring their friends and family along on the trip to enjoy the relaxing resort environment. Local artists are also welcome to attend classes on a day student basis. The average class price is $70 per day. Information about our 2020 schedule of workshops in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, collage, pocket sketching, fiber arts and more is online at dillmans.com/2020.
