Elephant Refuge North America (ERNA) is an ideal environment for elephants for many reasons, including abundant natural water sources, high annual precipitation and fast-growing vegetation. These benefits also make it necessary, as well as difficult, to maintain the vegetation that grows on the fences. To combat the challenge, we are building 14 wooden access bridges, totaling 800 running feet. This will give us year-round access to the 60,000 feet of fencing that encloses ERNA.
While the labor to build the bridges is done in house, we need to raise funds for the bridge materials. Our goal for the Build A Bridge campaign is $27,000.
Here's how your donations help:
$10 for 50 pounds of wood screws to secure timbers
$20 for treated poles for bridge foundations
$50 for treated timbers for bridge surfaces
$100 for planks for bridge rails (so we don't literally drive off the edge)
$150 for all of the perforated metal hanger straps needed to secure timbers

Did you know that elephants eat 100 to 200 pounds of food daily? They spend 20 hours each day selecting, collecting and consuming a varied vegetarian diet.
