We're Building Bridges at ERNA

Listen to Carol explain the bridges and why they are important for ERNA. Click to watch.

Elephant Refuge North America (ERNA) is an ideal environment for elephants for many reasons, including abundant natural water sources, high annual precipitation and fast-growing vegetation. These benefits also make it necessary, as well as difficult, to maintain the vegetation that grows on the fences. To combat the challenge, we are building 14 wooden access bridges, totaling 800 running feet. This will give us year-round access to the 60,000 feet of fencing that encloses ERNA.

While the labor to build the bridges is done in house, we need to raise funds for the bridge materials. Our goal for the Build A Bridge campaign is $27,000.

Here's how your donations help:
  • $10 for 50 pounds of wood screws to secure timbers
  • $20 for treated poles for bridge foundations
  • $50 for treated timbers for bridge surfaces
  • $100 for planks for bridge rails (so we don't literally drive off the edge)
  • $150 for all of the perforated metal hanger straps needed to secure timbers
Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated and helps us reach this important goal!
Taking A Line from USPS...We Deliver

Thanks to you, our supporters, we can provide more produce for elephants in Nepal! We are averaging one food drop per week. Much like the U.S. Postal Service, "neither monsoon nor COVID-19 can stop our delivering this important dietary supplement to elephants."

Did you know that elephants eat 100 to 200 pounds of food daily? They spend 20 hours each day selecting, collecting and consuming a varied vegetarian diet.

Happy girls satisfying their sweet tooth.

Thanks to all of you who make this project successful. When you help feed elephants in Nepal, your donations go directly toward providing supplemental produce. Your donations help us bring joy to elephants in Nepal at a time when they, and the people around them, desperately need it.
UNCHAINED Director's Cuts

UNCHAINED documentary director Alex C. Rivera recently released several video clips showcasing EAI founder and CEO Carol Buckley talking about elephants, mahouts and the challenges of changing culture. The clips are engaging, informative and provide a quick, yet profoundly rich sense of how important EAI's work is for elephant welfare. The series of five clips focus on elephant emotions, what we can learn from them, EAI's theory of working with nature (not against it) and the important role of mahouts in improving the daily lives of elephants.

Watch all five. It only takes about 7 minutes, so share with a friend. You'll be glad you did.
As always, we greatly appreciate your interest, commitment and help. You make our work for elephants possible. Thank you!
