If we don't teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.
GOD IS PERSONAL (Day 3)

Because GOD IS PERSONAL, I can be close to Him.

Preparation: If you could meet one famous person, who would it be, and why would you want to meet him or her?

Do you remember Freddy, the microscopic mite? He wanted to know the king, but it was impossible until the king went looking for Freddy. God created us to have a relationship with Him. He wants desperately for us to know Him and be close to Him.

Read the Bible Memory Verse below.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. (John 10:14)

But how can we be close to a Being who is beyond our understanding? Getting close to God is a little like getting close to your new neighbor. Pretend a boy your age moves next door to you. What do you do the first time you meet him? ( find out his name, his hobbies, and what he likes to do )

T hese facts give you a little bit of information to start from for your next conversation with him. Getting to know your neighbor is a little like getting to know God. You do so little by little; letting Him tell you more and more about Himself. How does God speak to you?

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3)

"...I WILL ANSWER THEE..."
God has many ways to speak to us about Himself. How many ways can you figure out?
  • Isaiah 55:11 (His Word)
  • Romans 1:20 (His Creation)
  • Hebrews 13:7 (Our Pastor)
  • Romans 1:19 (Our Conscience - this is a little harder to figure out)

Of course God is not like a new neighbor. He is much more than that. But because He is so kind and loving, He left Heaven to come to Earth and become a man like us.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER:
Because God is a Personal Spirit, you can be close to Him. It is important that we take steps every day to become closer to God, getting to know Him more and more. The primary way we can do that is through His Word. God tells us that as we take steps toward Him, He is already taking steps toward us ( James 4:8).

TAKING ACTION
( CLICK THE QUESTION BLOCK AND PLAY "THE QUESTIONS GAME" )
The purpose of the game is to get to know one another better. Beginning with the youngest person, have them read a question out loud. Everyone else writes down how they think the youngest would respond. The youngest tells their answer and everyone shares their guesses. Each person to guess correctly gets a point. Continue until everyone has had several turns at asking questions.
A Sample Prayer to Conclude Your Time
Dear God, I want to know You as You really are, the Creator God of the universe, our Heavenly Father, who holds everything in Your hand. You know my past, present, and future. Help me to love, trust, and obey You with all my heart, soul, mind, and will. Thank You for giving me an opportunity to know You intimately as my heavenly Father and to tell others about You and Your marvelous love. Amen.
