Today, civic participation occurs at many levels. We make impactful decisions about our community every time we make a purchase, vote, post on social media and, of course, volunteer. We think any awareness we can bring to the many resources that might spur individual action for good, falls right in line with what we’re up to at HandsOn.

PRIDE!
June is the month we celebrate the impact LGBTQ people have had on our country and honor those who have and continue to fight for equality. LGBTQ Pride Month began with a march on June 28, 1970 to commerate the Stonewall Uprising.

Language and culture rapidly changes and sometimes it can be hard to keep up if we aren't actively continuing to learn. The Human Rights Campaign has put together a glossary of terms to help. Recently, there has been more attention on people's personal pronouns. MyPronouns.org is a great resource to learn more about how to use pronouns and gender inclusive language.

Looking to get involved with local LGBTQ organizations? Phoenix Pride and one n ten are great places to learn how to get involved and to find other resources.
AmeriCorps VISTA
AmeriCorps VISTA is a federal program that puts members to work fighting poverty in local nonprofits and government offices. VISTA members work for 12 months and receive a living stipend, education award, and professional development training. It's a great stepping stone for those looking for careers in nonprofits, the government, or for getting into a graduate school program!

HandsOn is currently recruiting for multiple positions at a variety of host sites. Whether you are interested in a career in sustainability and developing programs that create a green job pipeline in Tempe or Phoenix, or working with StreetLightUSA to help those who have been victimized by child sex trafficking, or helping to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in the City of Phoenix.

Interested in a shorter AmeriCorps term?
We are starting a 9-week Summer Response Program to focus on food security, homelessness, and heat relief. This is in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul and the AZ Faith Network's heat relief centers. A great opportunity to gain nonprofit and national service experience for anyone 16 and older!

Applications are due June 14th. The program runs June 28th - August 30th.
