Orangetown in Review
Good Afternoon Residents -

I am happy to see that things are beginning to come back, slowly, but they are coming back. Bars and restaurants are still at 50% indoor dining, as well as outdoor dining, the all important hair and nail salons are opened. The Palisades Mall has returned to Pre-COVID-19 shopping hours. Now we just need to get the gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys open.

For those missing movies, please see below. The Orangetown Parks and Recreation Department has lined up movies for every Wednesday night in August.

In Pearl River tomorrow, Saturday, August 1st, portions of Central Avenue and Main Street will be closed from 3:00pm till 9:30pm for retail shopping and dining. I will be out on the Avenue and I hope to see you all out there too.

Many thanks to all who signed the Petition for Paula. While we weren't successful in keeping Richard LaBarbera in prison, we did manage to have him banned from Rockland County, and he is not allowed to associate with the Bohovesky family. I am grateful that the people of Orangetown have stood with Paula's mother for the past 4 decades.

The weekend promises to bring somewhat cooler temperatures and bright, sunny skies - get outside and enjoy it!

And please continue to stay safe.

Eagle Scout
Walkway of Heroes
Pictured from left to right: Troop Leader James Hurler, Eagle Scout Benjamin So, Planning Board Member Robert Dell and Supervisor Teresa M. Kenny

Eagle Scout Benjamin So began in April 2019, cataloging over 1,500 memorial bricks in the walkway and creating an online database and website that will allow visitors to find any brick at the memorial. Additionally, the database was created so that new bricks could be easily added and accounted for. Mr. So completed his project in July 2020.

Eagle Scout So, along with 22 volunteers (a mix of adults and youth members), worked with members of the Town Board, creating a QR code that will be posted in Town Hall, as well as in the Camp Shanks Memorial museum.

When the website goes live, it will be on the Town of Orangetown's website . Check back soon.

Coach USA Schedules

As of now, Coach USA Routes 46/47 (Express buses) and the 11AT/T are still temporarily suspended. The 20 bus is operating on a temporarily reduced weekday schedule.

They have implemented the following preventative measures:

Facial Coverings
  • As of Wednesday, July 15th, passengers will be required to wear a facial covering in situations where social distancing is not possible. This includes while waiting in line, during the boarding process, when on board the bus, and when getting off the bus.
  • We will have a limited number of masks available for customers who are unable to bring their own.
  • Exceptions will be made for customers with medical conditions, have trouble breathing or for children less than 2 years old.
  • Customers who choose not to comply with this policy may be precluded from traveling with us in the future.
  • Please visit the CDC's website here for more information on how to wear masks and how to make one at home
  • Our drivers will be also wearing masks when social distancing is not possible. This includes while accepting tickets, loading or unloading luggage and any other interactions with customers. Drivers will be socially distanced from passengers when operating the vehicle and will not be required to wear a mask while doing so.
Social Distancing
  • We have reduced the available number of seats on all of our vehicles to give our drivers and customers more personal space. This will guarantee an empty seat next to all customers for free.
Cleaning/Disinfecting Procedures
  • We have been and will continue to wash and wipe down all of our buses on a daily basis.
  • We are providing individual hand sanitizers to all of our employees.
  • Disinfectant wipes will be placed on all buses so that high traffic areas, hand rails and hard surfaces can be wiped down regularly.
  • Disinfectant wipes will be made available in common work areas in every depot and office so that all door knobs, and hard surfaces can be wiped down regularly.
  • The air on board the vehicles is filtered every 2 minutes and completely replaced with fresh, outside air every 10 minutes to ensure optimal air quality.

NJ Transit Bus/Train Information

The COVID-19 response efforts by NJTRANSIT are constantly evolving and being enhanced to remain consistent with federal and state health recommendations to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers still using the system for essential travel.

Three ways to stay up to date on service:

Download the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App®  and activate push notifications.
Stay connected to NJ TRANSIT social media  for system updates and real-time service status.

Executive Order 165 requires all staff & customers to wear face coverings on board all transit vehicles and inside all stations & facilities. Masks are also required on train platforms & bus stops when distancing is not possible. Eating & drinking are strictly prohibited aboard all transit vehicles.

If you have to travel, allow extra time getting to and from your destination, and listen closely to public address announcements at stations for late-breaking service information.

Effective Monday, June 8th, NJ TRANSIT has restored full weekday bus service system-wide

As an added precautionary measure to protect bus operators and customers, NJ TRANSIT has implemented rear-door boarding on all bus routes where rear-boarding is available. Seats near the bus operator have been taken out of service to allow for proper social distancing for the operator.

Effective, Monday, July 6, NJ TRANSIT has restored full weekday rail and light rail service systemwide.

NJ TRANSIT has enhanced its cleaning efforts to include disinfecting vehicles every 24 hours. Hard surface cleaning and disinfecting typically includes handholds, arm rests, seating areas and restrooms.

Their enhanced cleaning regimen in stations includes additional disinfecting of frequent customer touchpoints such as ticket vending machines, handrails, and door handles. In major stations and terminals, this occurs once every shift.

Customers must use trash receptacles to discard used face coverings and gloves in NJ TRANSIT stations or on vehicles. It's not just litter--it's a matter of public health.
