Dear Member, Stakeholder, Supporter,

This week we are celebrating EXCELLENCE!

It all starts tomorrow! We hope you have plans to cheer on our Canadian Men's National team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Staff will be cheering on from the club house where a designated 'Statutory 90 minute' break will be enforced on Wednesday November 23rd at 2pm when Canada takes on Belgium!

Underpinning our men's and women's national team development is the soccer system below it and we are really proud of our recent success that proves we are heading in the right direction. This past weekend three Pickering FC teams headed out to Maryland and competed in the Bethesda Premier Cup Showcase. We would like to congratulate our 2008G OPDL Team for for winning the Bethesda Premier Cup - U15 Female Patriot Division Championship this past weekend 👏 👏 👏

The team finished the weekend with a 3-0 record including a 4-1 win in the finals. They outscored their opponents 11-1 over the 3 games.

Last weekend, our 2009B OPDL team also travelled down south to the USA for a showcase in North Carolina. PFC would like to congratulate our 2009 OPDL Boys for winning the visitRaleigh.com Boys Jr Showcase - U14 Boys Elite Silver Division Championship this past weekend 👏 👏 👏

The team finished the weekend with a 4-0 record including a 5-0 win in the finals. They outscored their opponents 17-2 over the 4 games.

We wish our 2010, 2009, 2008, & 2006/07 Boys OPDL teams all the best this weekend as they complete in the Bethesda Premier Cup Showcase, in Maryland.

Excellence also happens in the form of match official development and home grown talent, Tristen Forgie is really representing Pickering proudly.

The Pickering FC is a leader in Ontario Soccer in many areas including the development of match officials.  A strong mentor program and on-going education/training sessions from January to May are key components of the Club’s match official program efforts to assist match officials in their development. In addition, the Club continues to expand its relationships with respect to match officials with Ontario Soccer, the Durham Regional Soccer Association, key match official assignors at all levels and senior match officials in the DRSA, and across the province to help promote the Club program and aspiring young match officials. Led by Club Head Referee Mike Balfour and the Members of the Match Officials Committee, the Pickering FC’s Match Official Development program are proud to update the membership on the successes of two of our young officials from this past outdoor season.

Emelia Schaafsma has completed her third season as a match official.  Completing the Entry Level Clinic during the start of Covid in 2020, Emelia is committed to growing her skills and confidence through participation on the Club’s education sessions, the mentor program and being part of the PFC Match Official Excellence Program.  This past season Emelia moved from being an Assistant Referee for games in our older recreational divisions to be the Head Match Official for U12 and U15 games as well as assignments in competitive games at the district and regional level. Emelia is attending the University of Guelph and was recommended to be an Assistant Referee for games in Ontario University Athletics.  Emelia received two assignments at this level.  2023 looks like it will be another year for Emelia to grow her skills as she has been recommended to be part of the officiating group at the 2023 OFSAA Girls AA Soccer Finals that will be held in Cobourg in June!

Tristan Forgie continues to make marks in Ontario Soccer as he continued his success as a Match Official in 2022.  Working out of the Niagara/ Hamilton Districts, Tristan was assigned as the head match official to League1 reserve games and OPDL games.  Over the season Tristan also worked in League1 Premier games as an assistant match official.  Tristan participated as an assistant match official this past fall at the Ontario University level.  Highlights of the season for Tristan were being the 4th Official for the U21 Ontario Cup Final and the Head Match Official for the U18 Boys Ontario Cup Final.

Tristan is not only an up and coming official in soccer, he is also growing his reputation as a strong official on the ice.  Tristan is a referee and linesmen in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and Ontario Hockey Association.  In September he was invited by Hockey Canada to attend their Officiating Program of Excellence Camp in St Mary’s.  From these camps, held across Canada, Hockey Canada selects individuals to be part of international and national events.  Tristan has been recommended to be part of the officials’ group for the Canada Winter Games that will be held in Prince Edward Island in February of 2023.

Along with Mike Balfour, Krishna Rajballie, Michael Heuthe and Alanna Takashima both Emelia and Tristan are members of the Pickering FC’s Match Officials Committee.

All Abilities Development Fund

The Pickering Football Club’s All Abilities program has been offering accessible recreational opportunities to children and youth in the Durham area for the past 14 years. Today, we offer numerous programs year round at the Pickering Football Club and through our community partners in the Greater Toronto Area.

In an effort to provide future accessible programming, we have established the All Abilities Development Fund. In partnership with Sport4Ontario and the National Sport Trust Fund, we are able to issue tax receipts for all donations.

Proceeds from the All Abilities Development Fund will be used to:

  • Create and implement All Abilities outreach programs in the Durham area
  • Purchase upgraded sport and recreational equipment
  • Provide leadership and accessibility training to our coaches and volunteers
  • Establish athlete and volunteer bursaries
