One request that we receive from attendees of each class, is for an opportunity to learn the basics of Judaism; to have an understanding of the building blocks from which the parshah, kabbalah, and Torah as a whole are built. “What’s in a mezuzah?” “How am I supposed to pray?” “What is the meaning of shabbat candles?” These questions haven’t found a home in any particular class we’ve offered, but that’s about to change.
Beginning November 1st, we’re truly excited to begin the Hebrew School for Adults, to take place on Tuesdays from 12 - 1 pm. During this special hour, Judaism 101 will be explained, over lunch and through casual discussion. Attendees will gain, week by week, genuine understanding of the concepts that form the cornerstones of our people’s heritage - like holiday customs, meaning behind prayers, and Jewish history.
Our goal is that the program live up to its name, and offer a grounded, practical education to those who were not privileged to have a Jewish education in their youth, as well as to those who did attend a Hebrew school, but today have lost clarity on the ideas.
First Season: Seven Tuesdays, November 1st to December 13th
Cost:$99 for all 7 weeks, or $18 per class
Lunch Included
All classes will be recorded and email to registered students

Help replenish our community food pantries in time for the holidays!
Local food pantries low on supplies due to Hurricane Ian
Food banks in Sarasota and Manatee counties rushed to help people impacted by Hurricane Ian, dipping into their reserves to help out after the storm. Now the non-profits are low on food and funds as Thanksgiving approaches, and leaders are asking for help.
“Our food panties are busy at work helping people who are in dire need. We made a decision to provide as much relief as possible. We just gave away more than $100,000 in Publix food gift cards to our local food panties. This depleted all our funds that we have raised so far that would normally be given out during the holiday season,” said Scott Biehler, executive director of the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program.
The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program coordinates with 34 non-profit agencies in communities throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. Together the network provides food and grocery gift cards to local households facing food insecurity. Over the past 35 years, The MFTHP has distributed more than 600 tons of food and $4.2 million in food gift cards. But now, due to Hurricane Ian, the cupboards are nearly bare.
Non-profit organizers are asking members of the community to donate in time for the holidays so more families can look forward to full bellies on Christmas. All donations stay in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
Financial donations are especially appreciated. They allow food pantries to give out gift cards, which means participants can buy the foods they like and know how to prepare. As an added bonus, the Flanzer Trust is matching donations made through their site, FlanzerTrust.org. Make sure to select The MFTHP from the list of charities. Donors can also learn about giving their time or non-perishable food items at

Patchington’s Party with a Purpose will once again stand up to domestic violence and bring awareness and support to our communities. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in every four women will become a victim to domestic violence in her lifetime. For more than 23 years, Patchington has partnered with our local communities to bring awareness to domestic violence and this year we intend to make an even bigger impact.
The weeklong in-store shopping event offers an excellent way for customers to support a local charity and take advantage of the special offers during the event. We have also developed wonderful relationships with local businesses and organizations that are supporting us with this important initiative.
“Each and every one of our stores is proud to support the Domestic Violence Awareness movement. Over the past 20 years we have contributed over 350,000 garments to be placed in the community’s local thrift stores hoping to aid some of the victims,” said Michael Levich, Patchington CEO and President.
Event Information – Tuesday, October 25 – Monday, October 31, in exchange for a $10 donation or a donation of gently worn clothing or new personal care items, customers will receive 20% off their purchase during our Party with a Purpose event. Our store in Venice is again partnering with Women’s Resource Center of Venice this year for this worthwhile cause.
