Notes of Joy - Week of August 22
This Week's Gospel: John 6:56-69
In this week's gospel many people take offense at Jesus’ invitation to eat his flesh and drink his blood; even many of Jesus’ disciples peel off. This is the backdrop in John’s gospel for Peter’s confession of faith. “To whom can we go?” asks Peter, in words we sometimes sing just before the gospel is read. “You have the words of eternal life.” In order to take such a stand, as Peter and Joshua did, Paul tells us to arm ourselves with the word of God. We pray in the Spirit that we might be bold ambassadors of the gospel.

Successful School Supply Drive
The school supplies we collected were delivered on Monday afternoon to Eagle River High School, Ravenwood Elementary and Alpenglow Elementary! The staff who received them were overwhelmed with gratitude and thanks for these donations. In the selected readings for worship over the last few weeks, Jesus has been talking about being the Living Bread and inviting us to eat. From this meal, we are sent to feed the world. Sometimes bread for the neighbor looks like backpacks, pencils, markers, paper, and erasers. We will never meet the students who will use these supplies, but we can trust they are the result of the Spirit’s work among us in responding to God’s love. Sometimes it’s ordinary things, like school supplies, which make all the difference in the world for someone. Many, many thanks to you all for your generosity! A special thanks to Nancy Wojnowski and Kelly Mullin for helping to organize the supplies into boxes and delivering them to schools.

With peace and good courage,
+ Pastor Sean
Recap From the August 10th Council Meeting

Your Council met last Tuesday. Some key points from the meeting:

  • COVID protocol on Sunday morning will remain largely the same (alternate rows, no contact Passing of the Peace and pre-sealed communion cups) however due to the increase in local COVID cases and following CDC recommendations, masks are encouraged for everyone. Protocol reviewed monthly.
  • Pastor Sean’s official installation is Wednesday, September 1st at 6:30pm. This is a very special occasion however due to COVID concerns we will not have refreshments after the installation.
  • The Website needs to be updated and made as user friendly as possible. Pastor Sean will look into this.
  • We discussed special reusable “occasion” banners to display by the front door that would be visible from the road.

If there are any issues/questions/comments you would like us to consider, you are encouraged to contact any of the council members. Our next council meeting is Tuesday, September 14. We are excited to begin this new chapter together.
