It is hard to believe that the start of the 2020-21 academic year at The Oakwood School is only two days away on Thursday, August 20. I would like to take this opportunity today to introduce and welcome our newest faculty members to The Oakwood School! Head of School

Ms. Johana Cashion
MS and US Spanish Teacher

Ms. Cashion received her Bachelor degree in Education and Foreign Language (English, French, Spanish) from Libre University in Bogta, Columbia; Master degree in Teacher and Training in Spanish as a Foreign Language in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and another Master in Linguistic and Literature (applied to the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language) at European of the Atlantic University in Spain. Ms. Cashion is currently pursuing her PhD in Education at Iberoamericana International University in Mexico. Ms. Cashion comes to Oakwood after teaching most recently for Nash Rocky Mount Public Schools in their Dual Language Program as a NC-certified Spanish Teacher for two years. Prior to this Ms. Cashion had various other teaching experiences at college level. She has also published two books and speaks three languages, her native Spanish, English, and French. Mr. Liam Gloster
2nd Grade Lead Teacher

Mr. Gloster received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Eugene Lang College, The New School for Liberal Arts, in New York, NY. He served as an Intern Teacher at The Chestnut Hill School in Chestnut, Hill, MA since August 2018. Mr. Gloster's major area of responsibility was in the classroom with a focus on curriculum, social and emotional development, training and professional development, and administrative functions. Mr. Gloster also served on an Upper School Humanities Curriculum Committee working with teachers in middle grades to develop and implement a sequential humanities curriculum division-wide. Mr. Gloster has relocated from Massachusetts just this past week! Welcome to Oakwood and Greenville, Mr. Gloster!
Ms. Ashley Mack
Kindergarten Teaching Assistant

Ms. Mack graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Campbell University. Most recently she was a teacher at Children's World Learning Center. She also worked as a Pre-K teacher at Reimage Child Development Center; a Behavioral Technician at Aces for Autism; a Youth Counselor at Boys & Girls Club; and a Library Circulation Assistant at Campbell University. Ms. Mack has also done over 240 volunteer hours at Vidant Medical Center. Welcome to Oakwood, Ms. Mack!
Ms. Shrimanthi 'Nikhita' Patil
1st Grade Lead Teacher

Ms. Patil received her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Developmental Psychology from the University of Windsor in Winsdor, Ontario, Canada and a Master of Teaching Primary / General from University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ms. Patil has had four placements including Countryside Village Public School in Kindergarten, Fernforest Public School in 1st Grade, McCrimmon Middle School in 6th Grade, and Stanley Mills Public School in 1st Grade. She has also done work as a primary school tutor and early childhood educator at a preschool and a Montessori school in Canada. Ms. Patil is fluent in English, Hindi, and Kannada. She is currently moving from Ontario, Canada and will be in Greenville this week! Welcome to Oakwood and Greenville, Ms. Patil!
Ms. Bailey Stancil
2nd and 3rd Grade Teaching Assistant

Ms. Stancil received her Associates degree from Pitt Community College in Early Childhood Education in 2019. Prior to this she graduated locally from Ayden-Grifton High School in 2017. Ms. Stancil has three years of experience in child care. She comes to Oakwood most recently from Children's World Learning Center where she was a 3-4 year old Lead Teacher. She also has experience at a child care provider Kids and Company in Ayden. Ms. Stancil is adaptable and focused as a teaching assistant and supporting the faculty and students with their classroom needs. She is a great addition to the Lower School teaching team. Ms. Janie Tyndall
Theatre and Yearbook Teacher

Ms. Tyndall received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts, Minor in History at ECU. She then attended Liberty University and received her Masters of Arts in Teaching - Secondary Education. Most of you may know Ms. Tyndall from Whirligig Stage where she served as a Production Associate, Teacher, Production Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, and Fight Choreographer. She was involved in A Mid Summer Nights Dream, Space Pirates!, Newsies, We Are Monsters, Macbeth, and Puffs. She oversaw production preparation; performed building maintenance and improvements; constructed scenes; programmed and ran light and sound systems; created promotional ads; performed website editing and maintenance; managed front of house; and oversaw and created technical elements for all productions and events. Ms. Tyndall also was involved with the administration, implementation, and creation of original curriculum for theatre classes and camps designed for all ages. Many of you may recognize Ms. Tyndall as she was the fight choreographer for Oakwood's 2020 production of A Mid Summer Nights Dream. Welcome to Oakwood, Ms. Tyndall!
Mr. Chris Young
Innovation Lab Facilitator

Mr. Young received dual BS degrees in Information Systems & Operations Management and Political Science from UNC Greensboro and an MBA from ECU. He comes to Oakwood from PCS as a Computer Science Teacher for the past 12 years with experience teaching coding; computer science discoveries and fundamentals; keyboarding; computer skills and applications; computer skills education; Go Grow - Technology; exploring business, marketing, and entrepreneurship; exploring career decisions; AIG (academically or intellectually gifted); and core connection. Mr. Young has his NC license to teach grades 6-12. He is also Microsoft Office User Specialist Certified and proficient in HTML, Visual Basic, ASP, PL/SQL, SQL, SAS, JavaScript, and Python. Welcome to Oakwood, Mr. Young!
