Joneses to lead Renaissance Society

.....Brenda Ware and Edley Jones have been tapped to lead the 2023 Renaissance Society - the funding arm of the Renaissance Foundation.

.....Noting that they have made the decision to live in Fondren, not once but twice, the Joneses have the charge of recruiting 100 Fondren supporters to become Renaissance Society members.

....."Our second move here reflects our conviction that Fondren embodies what we see as its core strength: a shared view among its residents that all of us want to be here to enjoy the local energy, its cultural offerings and the diversity of its citizens," they say.

.....Renaissance Society membership requires a minimum contribution of $1,000 (or $84 a month). Fondren Renaissance Foundation is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization.

We are lighting up Fondren Live

.....Thanks to our local Alzheimer's Chapter, we'll be lighting up Fondren with special luminaries in memory of those impacted by Alzheimer's.

.....Make a donation of any amount and receive a luminary bag and LED light - write your loved one's name on the bag and activate the light.

.....If you've already donated to the Alzheimer's Association, you will be receiving a luminary in the mail. Just customize it and bring it to Fondren and place it near your favorite Fondren spot.

.....You can also donate on line and pick up your luminary on site or donate on site and receive a luminary.

Lewis-Payton to join FRF Board

.....Rica Lewis-Payton will join the FRF Board of Directors in 2023 for a three-year term. Her nomination was approved at the November meeting of the FRF Board.

.....Returning for a second 3-year term on the Board are: Michael Boerner, Britney Moss, Sarah Bentley, Molly Walker and Sandy Carter.

.....Rica, a native of Birmingham, first came to Jackson to coordinate accreditation for 10 VA medical centers in the region. In 1993, she became assistant to the Chief of Staff at the GV Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center. In 200, Governor Ronnie Musgrove appointed her to head the state's Medicare System. In 2004, she became special assistant to the vice chancellor of the University Medical Center Network. Now retired, Rica was recently appointed to the Jackson-Medger Wiley Evers International Airport Authority..

This week a Miracle comes to Fondren

......Miracle is a Christmas-themed pop-up cocktail bar that serves holiday cocktails in a festive setting. With kitschy holiday décor, professionally-developed cocktails and the nostalgic energy of the best office party you’ve ever been to, Miracle is sure to get even the grouchiest grinch in the holiday spirit.

.....The event is licensed only to select locations each year and this year it appears at The Apothecary at Brent’s Drugs in Fondren. About 100 locations across the world are given the chance to participate in the pop-up that takes place in top craft bars across the U.S. and internationally.

.....Mississippi’s only Miracle location will launch Tuesday, November 22nd at The Apothecary at Brent’s Drugs, the unique cocktail lounge tucked in the back of Fondren’s seventy-six year-old soda fountain and diner. The pop-up will open at 5 PM on Tuesday through Saturday nights through the end of the year.

Singing in the Sanctuary

In it's 28th Season, the Mississippi Boychoir will showcase their talents at 6:30 p.m. Also Singing in the Sanctuary will be a choir from Jackson Public School and one from St. Richard's.

Epic Funk Brass Band at Highball Station for Fondren Live. Also returning to Fondren will be the Fondren Guitar Student Band and South Wind.

Fondren Church is hosting a Christmas Party in Fondren Park for the neighborhood! They’ll have inflatables, donuts, and hot chocolate! (Saturday, December 3)

Turner is winner of the Photo Scavenger Hunt Contest

.....Amy Turner and her two models, daughter Anna and friend Hattie Wofford roamed Fondren in search of the 12 items required for submission in the Photo Scavenger Hunt. Requirements included such items as an ornament for a tree, something that made you laugh, a beverage in a cup and your favorite Fondren Shopkeeper.
