October 14, 2022
Dear Dorchester Parents,
As we approach Halloween, the teachers and I are looking forward to another exciting Fall Festival on October 31 with the support of the PFA. During the first part of the afternoon, students will participate in Halloween-themed activities outdoors around campus with their classmates and teachers. For safety precautions, ONLY CLASS PARENTS AND TEACHERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THESE ACTIVITIES.
All families are invited to join us at 1:40 along Learning Lane for our Halloween parade. Beginning at 1:20, parents and other guests may stand anywhere on the sidewalks from the main lower level entrance at Dorchester to just before the basketball courts near the middle school on Learning Lane. The students, teachers, and class parents will parade down Learning Lane and back up along our parking lots and fields.
Additionally, Learning Lane will be closed from 12:00 - 2:00 to accommodate the festivities and parade.
In the event of rain, our parade will be held indoors for teachers, students, and class parents only.
For more detailed information, please see the notes below:
K-5 Lunch:
- No Fuss lunch service will be offered for the PFA for this day as usual, and all pre-ordered lunches will be brought to students in their classrooms.
- Please be sure all lunches/snacks packed from home for this day are NUT-FREE.
- An approved nut-free snack will be provided by the PFA in the afternoon.
Parking:
- Please be sure to follow all local parking ordinances. Parking for staff only will be provided on Rose Ave. There will be no parking available on the campus, so please plan accordingly.
- Learning Lane will not reopen for dismissal traffic until 2:00 p.m.
Costumes:
- All students may wear their costumes to school, or they may plan to change into their costumes at lunch with adult supervision. When planning your child(ren)'s wardrobe for the day, please consider that the morning will run on a regular school-day schedule. If there are portions of your child's costume that will prohibit participating in class, you may want to send those items in his/her backpack to be added before the parade.
- In the interest of safety, all masks should allow for clear visibility, especially as students will be using stairs during the day. Please note that students are NOT permitted to bring any weapon-like costume accessories - guns, knives, axes, etc. - as part of their costumes.
- If your child is taking part in a group costume, please be sure to invite all students in your child's class to participate so as to not exclude anyone.
Dismissal:
-
For security reasons, parents will not be able to take their children with them directly from the parade. At the end of the day's activities, students will return to their classrooms for dismissal. All parents and children must take part in our regular dismissal process at 2:30.
-
If you are changing your child(ren)'s dismissal mode, remember to update the change in PikMyKid.
Thank you for your cooperation in making this a special day for all of the Dorchester students.
Sincerely,
Stefanie Marsich
