Vaccines: Allocations and Appointments
Next week, BRHD is receiving a decreased vaccine supply.

For the week of April 19, BRHD will receive:
  • Pfizer 1st Dose = 2,340
  • Pfizer 2nd Dose = 1,170
  • Moderna 1st Dose = 2,700
  • Moderna 2nd Dose = 600

About one-third of vaccine doses in Virginia continue to be administered by retail pharmacy locations. While many pharmacies have continued to work directly with local health districts to vaccinate vulnerable populations, some pharmacies have online scheduling open to the public.
VAMS: A Direct Link to Scheduling
To provide better access to scheduling appointments, BRHD has created a direct access link to the VAMS appointment system. This link will allow all eligible users to schedule an appointment at a future BRHD vaccine clinic. Appointments may not be available right away, but Virginia’s goal is that everyone who wants a vaccine will be able to get at least one dose by the end of May.

HOW THE LINK WORKS:
  • The link takes users to a form to verify Phase 2 eligibility.
  • The user receives a confirmation code prior to clicking "submit."
  • Once the confirmation code is received and the form is submitted, users get an "Eligible/Not Eligible" message.
  • Eligible users are then sent a text (or email) to create a VAMS account and schedule their appointment. Note: This text/email may take up to an hour to arrive.

We recommend you choose SMS as your preferred method of contact as it greatly expedites the receipt of the registration link to VAMS. Email preferences can take up to an hour to be received.

If you have any issues scheduling your appointment, please contact us at brhealthdistrict@gmail.com with the subject "VAMS LINK APPT" and we will assist you.
Under 18 Years: Don't Forget the Adult
As Phase 2 is now underway in BRHD, all individuals 16 years and older are eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations. However, for those individuals under 18, a parent/legal guardian/in loco parentis signature is required for vaccine consent. This consent must be signed at each appointment, in person, for any appointment (either first and second dose).

When scheduling appointments for those 16 and 17 years old, remember to make sure a parent or legal guardian is able to attend at that appointment time, too!

As a reminder, Moderna is available for those 18+, while Pfizer is available for those 16+. At this time, vaccines are not yet available for anyone under the age of 16. Currently, trials are still underway for vaccination options for those under the age of 16. As more information becomes available on pediatric vaccines, we look forward to sharing with you.
Another Resource: BlueRidgeCOVID.org
Looking for one place to find all the answers? The Blue Ridge Health District, in partnership with Red Light Management, has launched BlueRidgeCOVID.org. The website serves as a portal for COVID-19 resources within the District and includes information on vaccine appointments, Frequently Asked Questions, job opportunities, case counts and vaccine dashboards, and more. Easy-to-follow icons guide users to a number of resources from the Blue Ridge Health District, Virginia Department of Health, and community partners. The website is available in both English and Spanish.

Remember, vaccination is only one tool to end the pandemic. We need to use them all in order to return to normal day-to-day activities, once 75% of the population is fully vaccinated. Continue to wear face masks, maintain physical distance, wash hands frequently and properly, and limit indoor social gatherings with other households.
