May 25, 2020
Administrator's Corner

That's a wrap! Well, Spartans, we made it! Thanks for being flexible and committed as we finished out the year. Several things:

1. Congrats to the seniors! We will be holding a virtual Graduation on Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. The video will be posted on our website. Look for a button under the main story that says "2020 Graduation Video."

2. There will be one more newsletter going out this year, on June 1. We will include any information you might need about summer homework or other news. We of course will keep you posted as soon as any decisions are made about how the fall will look for us.

3. Due to one our staff members testing positive for COVID-19 we have decided to err on the side of caution and postpone the pick-up of yearbooks until a later date in June. This will allow our facilities team time to disinfect the areas where the staff member was so as to better ensure everyone's safety. We apologize for the inconvenience because we really wanted to get the yearbooks out to the kids as soon as possible, but we also want everyone to be safe and healthy. We thank you for your understanding on this decision. Please note that the staff member was wearing a mask the entire time that they were around other people during the two days. Please click here for the official letter that went out to senior families.

Happy summer, Spartans!

¡Feliz verano, espartanos!

PTO News
We're excited to share that the King Soopers Community Reward Program is getting great results.  From January through March, 82 families participated which generated a donation of $1,600 to the PTO. Thank you to all who participated! We'd love to have even more families join the program. This is FREE money that supports TJ students and the school community. All you have to do is pick TJ as your rewards partner and then shop at King Soopers as you normally would.  TJ receives a percentage of all purchases!

It is easy to sign up. To get the benefits, you must register for the rewards program here...
  1. Go to https://www.kingsoopers.com/topic/king-soopers-community-rewards and sign in to your digital account or create a new one. Make sure your loyalty card number or alternate ID is associated with your digital account.
  2. Click on Enroll Now
  3. Search for Thomas Jefferson High School Partners or use code UT036
  4. Click Enroll
That's it! You are now ready to earn FREE money for the TJ community.  At the point of purchase, you must swipe your loyalty card or type in your alternate ID for your purchases to apply to TJ.
It takes approximately 10 days for the King Soopers Community Rewards total to begin displaying on your receipt. TJ receives payments from King Soopers quarterly. The percentage TJ receives varies by quarter.
You can view the total you earned during the last quarter by signing into your King Soopers account and selecting My Account. There is a tab for the Community Rewards Program. You can verify that TJ is listed as your Community Rewards beneficiary and see the amount you've contributed.
Thank you for your support!

Annual Family Update
Save time during fall registration by quickly updating your student's information online this spring. The "Early Bird" window for Annual Family Update is May 1 through May 31 at 4 p.m. As you know, all information for current students must be verified with DPS every year. By completing this process online, you avoid paper forms and decrease the time you spend at the school, and in line, during fall registration. In order to participate in the online Annual Family Update, you must have an active DPS Parent Portal account.

Transportation Opt-In Pilot Program
It's time to participate in the Transportation Opt-In Pilot Program. This pilot program gives you the opportunity to let us know if your student plans to use their transportation eligibility for the 2020-21 school year. Your participation helps our Routing Department plan routes more efficiently, reduce delays and improve service. Please make your selection by May 29. If you do not opt-in by May 29, we will not plan for your student to use their transportation eligibility for the 2020-21 School Year.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to participate:

1. Log into the Parent Portal (If you don't have a Parent Portal account, please create one).
2. Navigate to the Transportation page, where you'll find the Opt-In Program form.
3. The default for all students is set to "Opt-Out." If you'd like your student to utilize their transportation eligibility, please switch the toggle to "Opt-In." Please note, this means that if you don't take action, we will plan that your student will not use their transportation eligibility for the 2020-21 school year.
4. Remember to click the "submit" button to save your request.
5. Please do this by May 29, 2020. (If your circumstances change, you'll have an opportunity to change your selection at the end of the summer.)

You can find a step-by-step pictorial of the process, as well as a more in-depth description of the program, by clicking here

Class of 2021 - Juniors
Soon to be Vintage - Don't forget to buy an AMAZING class t-shirt if you haven't yet.  See Mrs Lynch room 111.  They're going fast!

As are our kiddos!  Just think one year from now they we will be dressing up for Prom, celebrating graduation, and gearing up for their next adventure.  Let's send them out in style.  To do this, we need your help!  Do you know that most schools charge $50-$80 a ticket for Prom?  AT TJ, we want everyone to go to Prom for no more than $20.21 a ticket and after Prom is FREE to all seniors! However, we cannot do it without your help.

Don't need a shirt and wondering how you can support the class?  Ready to make this the best year ever?  Start today and make a donation to the Class of 2021 through the Sprit Store here and feel AMAZING!

Look for some upcoming parent social events to kick off this journey and last hurrah! Tons of opportunity be part of the experience and we need EVERYONE to make this special.  If you like party planning or just have ideas or want to help with additional fundraising, contact any one of us. We need parents to take the lead on Senior Sleep out, Mr. TJ, Powder Puff Football, Homecoming Rally, and After Prom.  If this sounds like you, please speak up!

Class of 2022 - Sophomores
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Julie Rubin ([email protected]) or Marlene Talavera ([email protected]).

The class of 2022 has two faculty sponsors,  Jillian Gleason and Maggie Kennedy, but parents are needed to work with the staff to plan fundraising activities. Parent sponsors also plan community building activities for the parents of the class of 2022.  Each  class is expected to raise money needed to host their Prom, After Prom and other activities senior year.  The sooner the fundraiser get started, the more choices there will be for events senior year. The time commitment can be as little or as much you can share.   Your involvement in any capacity is important and appreciated. We are successful because of your behind-the-scenes contributions, large and small. It all adds up to a stronger community. An engaged parent body shows our students that we care about them!

If you need more information, contact [email protected], Julie at [email protected] or Marlene at ([email protected]).
Class of 2023 - Freshmen
Class of 2023 parents would like to thank our creative and enthusiastic sponsor Rebecca Taylor for helping us navigate fundraising and events for the Freshmen class this year! We are off to a great start for our class fundraising!!

While a few of our 2023 spring fundraisers and events were impacted by the Covid-19 closures, we all look forward to school activities resuming when deemed appropriate!

Thank you also to the MANY Class of 2023 parents who worked so hard this year! We encourage others to join in when things get rolling as we have some fun tentative plans and always need extra hands!!   If you have any ideas or comments and would like to get more involved, please contact Catherine Poirier [email protected]  or Christy Jordan [email protected]!

Lastly, our heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to all of the TJ seniors from the parents and students of 2023!   Have a safe summer everyone!
