The much-loved tradition of “Flower Communion” comes to us from the Unitarian congregation in Prague, whose minister and members created this ritual to remember the beauty that lives in every community, and every time. Even when life is hard, and the future uncertain.
Bring a flower and come "play" with us on the Meeting House grounds - 1 p.m. on Sunday!
We’re not yet meeting inside the Sanctuary... but those who would like to gather outside the Meeting House are most welcome to join in a special version of First UU’s beloved Flower Communion.
We’ll set up chairs – just bring yourselves, your family and friends, and flowers to share. We’ll all wear masks and maintain distance to keep each other safe, and protect those not yet vaccinated.
There will be music on the steps of the Meeting House, plus activities for children – and adults! – on the lawn:
Painting rocks, to deliver later to those who can’t come in person
Planting the sunflower garden
Active games and other flower-related crafts planned by the YUUth Group for children and the young at heart!
Beyond These Walls II
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations & Finance
Did you miss the first Beyond These Walls Musical Extravaganza? Well, here's your chance to experience the magic for the first time or all over again!
Our goal was to raise $35,000, to cover the costs of upgraded systems in the Sanctuary so that we can livestream services from the Meeting House. At the first showing, we were wildly successful and raised a little over $34,000. Extra money means we can purchase additional equipment to make our livestreaming more advanced. Please give as generously as possible.
Our theme this month is “play.” Play a song, read a poem, or tell a story that meshes with this theme. Or whatever else moves you.
To join our email list, or sign up for the open mic, send Todd a note: [email protected].
Join Sunday Circles After the Service
Gail Beck and Hope Baker-Carr
Sunday Circles (formerly Coffee Hour Circles) continue this Sunday, June 13 after the service (11 a.m. to noon). Offering a time for deeper connection, with the assistance of a facilitator and other attendees, the group takes time to reflect on the sermon topic and where they are in the present moment. As an alternative to coffee hour, Sunday Circles follow a structured format where participants take turns speaking and listening.
NOTE: To join Sunday Circles after the service, use this link: bit.ly/3gYMJqG. You do not need to go to Coffee Hour first. For audio only, call 646-558-8656 (meeting ID: 891 6404 8291).
Open-Air Story Paths Return... Come Amble!
Margo Whitcomb, Faith Development Assistant
Where did we come from? Continuing our story installations on the grounds of the Meeting House, this offering is an engaging call and response text where a child (or adult) can “wiggle like a fish or hoot like an ape” while learning the story of evolution. Grandmother Fish offers vibrant illustrations and engaging text for all.
From the Racial Justice Team
Peggy Owen Sands, Racial Justice Team
Dear FUUSB Congregants,
The Racial Justice Team invites everyone to anonymously answer four questions to help our team plan for the coming year’s goals. We offered a panel discussion with small groups discussing these questions. And we feel that we would really benefit from having input from as many people who attend FUUSB services as possible! If you identify as Black, Indigenous and/or a Person of Color you are welcome to skip questions 1-3 while answering question 4.
Thank you, in advance, for giving us your time by answering these questions.

Taken a Fall
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations & Finance
We wanted to let the congregation know that our Minister Emerita, Roddy O'Neil Cleary, took a fall recently and broke her hip. She is currently at Birchwood Terrace for rehab. Visitation is currently for family only, but she would love to receive cards and all the healing energy you can send her way. We will keep you updated.
