Construction Activity
Week of January 16, 2023

Beginning the week of January 16, 2023, construction on the I-10 Desert Rehab Project is anticipated to begin. Nightly single-lane closures along eastbound and westbound I-10 are scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 17, between 7 p.m. - 5 a.m.

  • A nightly single-lane closure along eastbound I-10 from east of Dillon Road to east of the Cactus City Rest Area will be in place for crews to safely set k-rail barriers along the inside shoulder.

  • A nightly single-lane closure along westbound I-10 from east of the Cactus City Rest Area to east of Dillon Road will be in place for crews to stage equipment and safely enter and exit the work area.

Stay alert, reduce your traveling speed, follow all posted traffic signs, and allow for extra travel time.

Please note, construction is dependent on many variables including weather, construction material, and crew availability. All schedule information is subject to change.
Project Background
The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13 mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
