JV Community Instagram Takeovers Have Begun

The '22-23 JV communities have begun hosting takeovers on our Instagram page to introduce their communities and share about what makes their service and locales unique. So far we've heard from the Tacoma, Sitka, St. Xavier, and Spokane communities. You can watch past takeovers in the story highlights on our Instagram page, and be sure to follow us to get to know future communities. If you're not on Instagram, you can also watch them on YouTube.

Spokane JV EnCorps Members and JVs Share the Joy of Good Company and Food

Because we are all cut from the same JVC Northwest cloth, as Spokane JV EnCorps members and Jesuit Volunteers, we enjoy gathering during the year for companionship and support. In late October, we broke bread at our annual potluck, hosted by Fr. Tim Clancy, SJ, at the Jesuit’s Bea House. Sue Feulner, JVE and FJV (Fairbanks ‘70-72), coordinated the event, Bob Fuelner, JVE and FJV (Fairbanks ‘68-71), offered a prayer, JVEs cooked, and everyone (including the 5 JVs, 14 JVEs and JV in-local coordinator, Sarah Marr) contributed to the friendship and fun!

Hearing a little about how the JVs’ year is opening out for them gave JVEs more insight into agencies and programs in our city. And JVEs offered a look into the future possibilities of being “ruined for life” by lifelong engagement with our Ignatian values. And—always a plus—the JVs had plenty of leftovers to take home.

Nature's Gift Forest Therapy

Tacoma, WA

Denise McDermott, LICSW (FJV Bridgeport CT, '93-94) is a Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide through ANFT (Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides) that offers guided walks in the Tacoma area for individuals and groups as well as engaging presentations on the benefits of nature connection at retreats and workshops. She views guiding walks as an honor and enjoys introducing people to this life giving practice. If you are interested in more information or scheduling a walk or event with Denise please contact her through her website.

Interesting FJV fact about Denise: she is also the daughter of two of the original JVs (before they were called JVs). Her parents met at the Copper Valley School in Alaska 1958-60. Teak and Del Hoover have been happily married over 60 years!
