As many of you return to St. Bart’s to worship with us in person, you may notice that our facilities team has taken the opportunity to do a great deal of work on our buildings while you were away.
|
|
|
|
Spring has come to New York City and the COVID infection rates in the City are declining. Thanks be to God! We have resumed in-person worship at St. Bart’s on Sundays at 5 pm and we will resume our regular schedule over time. In-person worship at 9 am will begin on Sunday, June 6. It is still important to reserve a seat. We will continue to ask all attendees to remain masked through the service and to maintain appropriate social distancing. We will make the use of masks optional when we are advised to do so by the diocese, the city, the state, and by our own medical advisors. We joyfully welcome you back! Learn more and register here.

Solemn Reverence: The Separation of Church and State in American Life
Dartmouth Professor Randall Balmer returns to St. Bart’s to discuss his new book about the separation of church and state, its long history as a key principle of American government, and the many challenges it faces in the current political environment. The Forum will be streamed on our website, Facebook Live and YouTube.

The LGBTQ+ Pride flag, which will fly over Park Avenue for the entire month of June, will be blessed in a brief ceremony after the 5 pm Eucharist. Come and celebrate the inclusive nature of God’s love!

This summer, take a break from the serious study of dense theological texts and find God on the silver screen! The Reverend Peter Thompson leads weekly discussions about three TV series featuring clergy and their families: in June, the Danish show Herrens veje (Netflix); in July, the British show Grantchester (Amazon Prime, PBS Passport); and in August, the American show Greenleaf (Netflix). Join us for one show or all three. Ahead of the first meeting, please watch episodes 3-5 of Herrens veje.

For the month of June, The Peace Book Club completes its exploration of Jesus and the Disinherited, a classic work about the connection between Christianity and social justice by Howard Thurman, the dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University who served as a major influence on The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please read chapter 5 ahead of the next discussion.

Continue to learn about systemic racism and its devastating effects through a webinar series presented by the Reparations Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of New York and a companion set of discussions intended just for members of the St. Bart’s community. Summer Camp at St. Bart's is open for registration! Children 2 through 6 years old will enjoy a wide variety of activities at our day camp, from games and athletics, music and movement, and arts and crafts, to science experiments, yoga and drama for the older campers. Our shaded rooftop playground and newly renovated 26,000 square foot gym provide the setting for hours of fun under the supervision of our experienced camp counselors. Each session is two weeks. 10% sibling discount.

St. Bart's Community Preschool is accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year. For over 40 years, our preschool has provided a warm, nurturing first school experience.

Do you desire a few moments of peace at the end of each day? Join the St. Bart's community for Night Prayer each weekday evening at 8:30 pm. Clergy and lay officiants will lead brief services based on or inspired by the ancient office of Compline.
