What a journey we are on as individuals, families, and communities of faith. A journey through a pandemic as I hear many say didn't think was possible in their lifetime. But here we are. With telephone and technology as our means of communications the question at the fore front of my mind is always asking, How are you? Some of you I see on a regular basis as you have continued to engage in our studies, worship, meetings, outreach (i.e. South Shore Food Shelf) and coffee hour. Seriously, I don't know where I might be without you. We are still community. We are still community drenched in the love and presence of our Holy God.
I am excited to be holding our first outdoor service this evening at the ball field in Cornucopia. My hope is that it is a "hit" that flies out of the ballpark. Of course that's always my hope with every activity we engage in together as community.
Please, please hold in prayer the people on our prayer list. This is also a contact list of people that may not be ill, but never the less are not connected to technology. Please help me in continuing to make phone calls and send cards.
Like you, I have so many questions. When will this end? Will this ever end? Will there be a vaccination that works and is available to all of us? And then we have our racism which has been in a pandemic mode for hundreds of years. Will layers of changes be met in our systems, and institutions,.... and in our hearts, to make the lives of people of color really matter and equal? As we continue on these paths I pray we are able to grow together in love and knowledge with and for all of God's creation.
Something new has got me energized and I hope it will you too. I thank Al Reedy president of the congregation of Immanuel for the conversation a few weeks ago. In a nutshell Al brought up the point that most of us are old and getting older. Although this is a fact, we glorify in that our two churches (peoples) are very active in our communities and volunteering has shown no limits of time or age. In other words we are blessed to be a blessing. But back to the old part. We have a handful of people under the age of 60 in both churches. Do you have any idea what their hopes and dreams are for their lives, for their children, for their communities, for their communities of faith? I don't. So, we took our conversation a step further and both councils agreed a good idea might be to get these young'ins together and find out. These kids are excited about the idea which like I said energizes me and puts a grin on my face. They will be having their first meeting this month. Thank you to these folks for stepping up. Excited. Newness. Hope. Here are their names (all under 60):
Ashley Georgeson
Jeanna Metelica
Teresa Weber
Mark Ludeking and Kylie Vadenis
Bev Volpone
Fred and Kelly Faye
Susan Woodbury
Prayerfully we move forward in courage and Hope!
Stay well! Peace and Blessings to you and your families!

The council has discussed keeping our churches closed through August or September.
We will be able to sing if everyone wears a mask. (Bayfield County Health Dept) Everyone!

There will be a prayer at 11:00 am at each of the starting locations and we will walk along the sidewalks of Rittenhouse Ave to Memorial Park where we will have 9 minutes of silence, a short statement and some music as we head back up the hill.
Hoping this lasts about an hour in total.
