Come!
1
“Come, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
2
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food.
3
Incline your ear, and come to me;
hear, that your soul may live; (Isaiah 55:1-3)
These are the words Yahweh spoke through His prophet Isaiah to give to His people. These are words of invitation for those who have run dry, who thirst. They are words for people who are grasping at whatever they can afford and whatever they can do to satisfy their bodies and souls. Our Lord has an invitation for them and for you; come and receive. Come and drink from the well of God’s grace that does not run dry. Come and eat spiritual food that will satisfy your deepest longings. Come and listen to the living words of promise that God speaks to you through His servants; words that give life that you may be set free to truly live.
Come, won’t you? Whether in person or online, come and be fed. Be filled up with our Lord’s words that are for you – promises and words of hope that will not ever let you down. Be strengthened in Christ to live these days in confident hope with transcendent joy.
How do you know these promises written down by nearly 2800 years ago are for you? God says so through Isaiah in verse 5,
“
5
Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know,
and a nation that did not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,
for he has glorified you.”
We are those foreign people Israel did not know, but Jesus did. He came to call those who were far off and bring them near to Himself (Acts 2:39). We, who were strangers to the covenant promise God made to Israel through Abraham, are now brought near to God and made His people though the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:11-13).
So, come; come whether we meet inside a building or outside; Christ Himself promises to be present calling you who are thirst and hungry to be filled up and satisfied. He gives you true food to eat and rich wine to drink all without price – He paid it all and invites you to come and simply receive – too good to be true? Yep, but it’s for you – real forgiveness, real life, real salvation – waiting for you. Come, I’ll be there with you.
