The Boston Children’s Foundation (BCF), founded by Robert Macy and Dicki Johnson Macy, is committed to ending the trauma that perpetuates a culture of fear, maladaptation and violence by turning youth’s natural energy towards healing activities, social empathy and positive relationships.

BCF continues to work with community partners especially during this pandemic, which has caused a significant increase in demand for trauma-informed services and related psychosocial support services for residents in Metro Boston. BCF has teamed with three minority-owned nonprofit organizations who work deep in the community, servicing residents disproportionately impacted by trauma, violence and the COVID-19 pandemic. These partners include: Transitional Remedies Solutions Inc., which offers assistance to a vast majority of men and women who are transitioning into their respective communities, (https://trsboston.org/), Imaginal, Inc., Elevate Boston, and Young Merchants Club (YMS). Over the last 12 months these community partners working with BCF staff have delivered 9,381 direct service hours to 22,132 clients in Metro Boston.

BCF staff members and interns have been honored to provide Rainbowdance® programming to nearly 250 children and 50 caretakers/parents throughout the Greater Boston Area this fall semester. After 18 months of virtual offerings, we are glad to be back with safe, in-person engagement.
Now more than ever, as we all continue to face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we see the vital need to foster healthy social connections, and nurture the healing rituals in our beautifully diverse communities. This mission brings us to many at-risk communities this year, where we offer pro bono Rainbowdance® sessions:
Julie’s Family Learning Program is a unique and special site in South Boston that provides childcare to young learners while their parents simultaneously engage in classes related to education, parenting skills, career development, and resiliency. It has been heartwarming to witness the children’s growing confidence with Rainbowdance®, as well as their connection to each other and their caregivers.

We have had the pleasure of reuniting with the community at Housing Families, Inc. in Malden after our virtual year together. We are continuously moved by the children and families’ resilience amidst the challenges of the pandemic. It has been marvelous to witness the children’s joy through Rainbowdance® as they build self-assurance and develop close friendships within their community.
At Everett's ABCD Head Start and Early Head Start, we joyfully met with children for the first time this autumn, after only meeting each other virtually last year.
This Spring we also hope to return to in-person sessions with Eliot Family Resource Center in Malden, which provides many important services for families in the community. With the FRC, we offer a wonderful community drop-in group for the whole family to enjoy together.
Additionally, we are happy to support our trained Rainbowdance® practitioners in the field as they implement Rainbowdance® at their sites: ARTrelief in Watertown, The Mather School in Dorchester, and Compass/Moms Do Care program at the Beverly Hospital.
We also give much gratitude for our other Rainbowdance® recipients, MIT Westgate in Cambridge and Lesley Ellis School in Arlington, for having us join their communities this year.
