August 20, 2020

Dear Friends,

Please join me on Monday, August 24, at 7:00 p.m. for the second in my Thought Series of virtual conversations. This topic will be Affordable Housing.

Panelists David Bowers, Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Market Leader, Enterprise Community Partners; Maryann Dillon, Executive Director, Housing Initiative Partnership; George Leventhal, Director of Community Health for Kaiser Permanente; and Sheila Somashekhar, Director of the Purple Line Corridor Coalition will join me to discuss County efforts to address affordable housing before and during the pandemic, the need, and what's happening now.

Register online at https://bit.ly/ThoughtSeries2. It promises to be a robust discussion.

On April 6 I launched Greater Riverdale Cares with several community leaders, churches and nonprofit partners. The graphic on the left is a quick snap shot of the incredible work we have accomplished #onlytogether through August 6 thanks to the  efforts of hundreds of volunteers and supporters. The need continues and so does our work.

Donations to Greater Riverdale Cares support locally-owned restaurants and neighbors in need.

Several of our regular food distribution sites will end in August due to the end of the CARES Act USDA grant which has allowed us to distribute more than 2,500 boxes of fresh produce every week across District 3.

I'm working hard with numerous partners to find additional sources of food in order to resume and continue distributions this fall.

The flyer on the top right flyer outlines free food distributions in/near Council District 3 through the end of August. Please watch my email newsletter and social media for updates about if/when some sites will resume.

SEED is holding a second emergency diaper distribution on Monday, August 24, at 1:30 pm at 6201 Riverdale Road. Attendees must wear a face mask and bring their own pen. In addition attendees must provide proof of Prince George's County residence, the child's birth certificate or ID and the parent's government-issued ID.

Prince George's Community College is holding a virtual registration on Saturday, August 22. Learn more.

Prince George's County Public Schools begin on Monday, August 31 for students. All students are invited to attend a mock school day on Friday, August 28 to prepare for virtual schooling. Learn more.

Luminis Health is hosting a Doctors Community Hospital Blood Drive on Thursday, August 27, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Sign up online here.

Reminder: Click here to read my last email newsletter with rental/eviction resources and tax credits for renters and homeowners. Espanol aqui.

As always, feel free to reach out to a member of my District 3 team or me if we can help you in any way. I am sharing updates regularly on social media, especially my Facebook page.  #onlytogether
