News you can use
Dear members:

What occurred in Minneapolis, Minnesota has touched many hearts and shed light on an unacceptable norm that must come to an end.

It sparked many to join together, put aside differences and call for change.

As the story concerning the death of George Floyd unfolds, we the members of the Miami-Dade College of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) aim to be a part of the solution that advocates for structural, systemic and societal changes that prevents incidents of police brutality.

This is why, the MDC-AFC executive board suggests fair and impartial police training for all officers sworn to protect and serve.

Additionally, it is imperative that we as employees of Florida's 28 continue to build and maintain a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment in which we work and serve our students. This is a responsibility of us all. Together we can continue to ensure this happens on all campuses and throughout the broader community.

Indeed, this moment is the time for peace, healing, justice and hope. This is also the time for us to self-reflect, seek ways to remove any unconscious biases that may exist and to have courageous conversations in an effort to strengthen our relationships with one another. We are MDC-AFC!

Upward and onward,
