Summer is fully underway and it is an exciting time ahead of us as we look forward to upcoming parades and opportunities to share with our local communities.
Apple Blossom was a wonderful time and the first parade for many communities to finally get together and share our themes for this upcoming year. A special thank you to all of those who made the trip to Wenatchee. Take a look below in the 'Save the Date' section, to see some of our pictures showing all the fun we had. There are more on our website, click here.
As I approach the end of my time as the Spokane Lilac Festival President, I have a lot to be thankful for through what seemed to be some difficult times. We as an organization could not have done it without you, our Directors and our many financial contributors. For that, I say Thank You.
To that note, and because of you, we are halfway to our financial goal with our GoFundMe campaign and we remain relevant to our community we serve. I would encourage you to be a part of the excitement by not only giving but by joining us at one of our upcoming parades.
I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
Dan VerHeul
2021 President

Congrats to the
2021 Teachers of the Year!
|
|
The Teacher of the Year program started in the early 2000's when Russ Brown, Director & Past President 2006, was tasked to create an opportunity to honor our Royalty's mentors. Russ, being a long time educator himself, wanted to create a program to spotlight those teachers going the extra mile to ensure bright futures for their students.
Each member of the Royal Court selects a teacher from their High School that has most influenced them throughout the past four years. The ladies must write and submit an essay that demonstrates the reasons for their nomination. All Teacher of the Year recipients are presented a plaque and certificate at their school along side the Festival's President, a representative of our sponsor (if applicable), Royalty and Mr. Brown.
The teachers are then honored at one of our spring luncheons and invited to ride as a VIP in our annual Armed Forces Torchlight Parade.
The Lilac Festival is committed to the continued education of our Royalty Court and celebrate those who helped shape into the young women they have and will become.
