First Doses
CRUSH
Covid

Eagle Rock residents Teresa Flores and Scottie Britt headed to a recent vaccination clinic at the Eagle Rock Library straight from the gym to get their first doses. After initially feeling reluctant to get vaccinated since COVID had not seemed like a concern for young adults, the couple changed their minds after Scottie suffered serious complications from his recent COVID illness.

It's not too late to get protected with a first or second dose, or booster. Visit the vaccine locator to find a dose near you, including at:

in the former Sears

DID you know?...

There is NO requirement for re-testing after a positive COVID test result. Individuals who have tested positive, regardless of vaccination status, should simply follow the CDC's Isolation Guidelines until their isolation period concludes, depending on the severity of their illness.
(Why? Some tests, especially nasal swab PCR tests, will continue to pick up trace amounts of virus for a month or longer after a person's infectious period has ended.)
RCAHD
Community Health Update

Hepatitis A
By Cynthia Morrow, MD, MPH

While the COVID-19 pandemic has grabbed headlines for the past two years, we continue to see cases, and even outbreaks, of other communicable diseases in the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts (RCAHD). One current concern is that the number of cases of hepatitis A has steadily increased in our districts.

In a typical year, the RCAHD team investigates only 2-5 cases of this disease among RCAHD residents. Between October 2021 and February 10, 2022, we have investigated approximately 30 additional cases of hepatitis A, with over 70% of these individuals requiring hospitalization...

RCAHD COVID-19 Situation Update
02/15/22

Although RCAHD cases have decreased, all of our localities continue to see high levels of COVID activity. Mitigation strategies are still recommended, such as masking in indoor public spaces, however, we are encouraged that cases continue to decrease from January highs. Although we have seen a recent increase in deaths locally, we are pleased that local rates of hospitalization have dropped.
