Let the games begin!
With September comes 'back to school', the U.S. Open and our own Club Tournament. What a great way to cap off an incredible season!
This month's newsletter features important information regarding our Club Tournament and our upcoming Annual General Meeting with its corresponding election. We encourage you to support the Club by letting your skill speak on the court and your vote or candidacy speak in the election. Let Petya's Place prepare you for the upcoming tournament and be sure to check out the equally important volunteer and tennis success in the Community Corner.

Club Tournament...still time to register for most events!
This year's Club Championships will be held on the following dates:
August 31st - September 5th - registration closed
Mixed Doubles
Ladies Singles
Parent & Child - NEW!
September 7th - 12th - registration closes Sunday, September 5th
Senior Men's Singles (over 50 years old)
Men's Doubles
Junior Singles - NEW!
September 14th - 19th - registration closes Sunday, September 12th
Men's Open Singles
Senior Men's Doubles (over 50 years of age)
Ladies Doubles
Registration - To register, log into your member portal and register under "Singles Tournament" and "Doubles Tournament" which will then provide you with the respective categories.
Draws - will be posted to your member account under "Club News" on the Monday prior to the event.
Fees for singles events will be $15 and doubles events $10 per player. The "Parent & Child" fee is a combined $10 and the Junior (U18) fee is free. Fees will be charged to your account approximately one week prior the the event and must be paid before playing.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Election of Board Members
The Credit Valley Tennis Club AGM will be held on Saturday, October 2nd at 2pm. During the AGM Board members will provide "year in review" updates, member questions and comments will be received and a vote will take place to determine the 2021/22 season Board of Directors amoung other content.
The Board is made up of Executive positions whose role is to run the day-to-day operations of the Club and Director positions whose role is to provide financial oversight and guidance.
Executive positions that will be voted on are:
*current representative will not be returning for next season.
**at least two Director positions will be uncontested

If you would like to run for any of the positions click here to submit your name, the position you are running for, your contact information, who is nominating you, and who is seconding the nomination. We also encourage you to submit a 1-page "Candidate Profile" in the form of a Microsoft word document stating the case for your candidacy. Nominations can be made right up to and during the AGM. "Candidate Profiles" received by midnight September 20th will be shared via an e-blast with Club members to review simultaneously to proxies being made available no less than 10 days before the AGM. Candidates will also be given an opportunity at the AGM to present their candidacy prior to voting. |

Change in Club Opening Time
Effective Monday, September 6th the courts will be opening at 8am (from 7am). This is the result of the sun rising later and its impact on opening the Club.

The serve is the only shot in tennis we have full control over. A great serve starts with the toss. Watch this video to learn how to develop a consistent toss!

Alexander Zverev
With the US Open approaching the main question lingers….will Novak Djokovic win the title and complete his Grand Slam quest? A quest that has not been done on the men's tour since 1969 by Rod Laver.
However the more interesting question in my opinion would be, can anyone stop Djokovic, and if so, who would that be? Nadal, Federer, Thiem, and Raonic will not be playing at Flushing Meadows this year due to injuries. That leaves Medveded, Tsitsipas and Zverev as the most hopeful candidates to beat World No. 1.
My bet would be on Zverev! With his fifth ATP Master 100 title, an Olympic gold medal, and an 11-match winning streak Zverev appears to be a serious contender. Oh, and let's not forget that winning that Gold in Tokyo Zverev beat Djokovic and stopped the Serbian quest for the Golden Grand Slam (all Grand Slam tournaments plus an Olympic Gold Medal all won in the same year).
Zverev has not lost a match since Wimbledon 4th round defeat by our own Felix Auger Aliassime. Further, he just won the title in Cincinnati beating in the finals another great player of the new generation - Andrey Rublev of Russia.
“It's definitely going to be an interesting US Open. But I'm also looking forward to it, because I know where I stand, I know how I'm playing, and I hope I can continue the work and hopefully play even better in New York.” - said Zverev.
