CARVER VOICES - AUGUST 2020
OUR SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM
FILLS A VOID IN THE COMMUNITY

In a "typical" year, when school lets out for the summer, children are at increased risk of hunger. Finding food to replace school meals is a significant challenge for our families.

Did you know that Port Chester is a community in which over 70% percent of children are eligible for free or reduced lunch?

In the month of July, through our Summer Food Program at the Thomas A. Edison School, we distributed 7,098 free breakfasts and lunches for school-aged children.

Our community partner, Caritas, provided 5,192 weekend meals to families at the Friday distribution.
CARVER MARKET BY THE NUMBERS

In the month of July, the Carver Market served
1,432 households and fed approximately
5,560 individuals in those households.

Thank you Caritas of Port Chester and Feeding Westchester for this important collaboration. We are providing fresh produce options and hot meals to our families.

CARVER CENTER TEENS
ARE JOB READY THIS SUMMER

Summer job programs for teens provide meaningful employment experiences that can improve their job readiness and financial skills and boost their academic and career aspirations.

Many of our Teens are working this summer at the Port Chester Youth Bureau. They are working in various areas such as the
Town Clerk's Office, Surveyor's Office, and Planning Department.
Each day begins with a workshop focused on developing the specific skills needed to be successful in the role.

Carver Center and the Youth Bureau of Port Chester
share a common goal to educate and empower our teens!

Cheers to Alia James, Jakym Jordan, Rahsheek Hill, Nalah Jones, Khaliah Thomas, Josiah Jones, Ronni Harris, and Jordan Lewis (Teen Center Alum)!
THANKS TO A GREAT CARVER FRIEND!
Big thanks to Carver supporter Lou Larizza! His team has
installed a beautiful fence between our parking lot and the
Regent Street Senior Apartments that he has developed
adjacent to our property.
His crew (pictured below) went above and beyond to clear
the brush and remove an old chain link fence on our
side of the property.
It's going to look great when it's finished!
