"Welcoming as Christ"
by Veronica Shea, Director of St. Bart's Central and The Bookstore
As we move toward opening our buildings to more public activity, resulting in more human interaction, it brings home how much I have missed that social interaction for over a year now. Sharing the architectural beauty of our church home is one of the great joys of my position—the “wow” factor when a newcomer enters the main doors and looks up at the Narthex mosaics never gets old.
Beginning Sunday, May 9 at 5 pm
Spring has come to New York City and the COVID infection rates in the City are declining. Thanks be to God! Restaurants, theaters, museums, and other venues are beginning to re-open and we plan to begin in-person worship again at St. Bart’s on Sunday, May 9 (Mother's Day) at 5 pm. We will begin by welcoming a smaller 25-person congregation to attend this service. It will be important to reserve a seat. Later, we plan to increase numbers gradually to a maximum of 60 persons. We will continue to ask all attendees to remain masked through the service and to maintain appropriate social distancing. ONGOING AND UPCOMING
Wednesdays, April 28-May 26, 7-8 pm
The whole world has been living through the trauma of COVID-19 over the past year and some months. How do we emerge in a way that allows us to simultaneously acknowledge the pain we've endured and move forward? Join the Reverend Peter Thompson for a discussion based on Shelly Rambo's wide-ranging book Resurrecting Wounds: Living in the Afterlife of Trauma. Please read the first chapter before the next session.

Saturdays, May 8-June 26, 10-11 am
The Saturday discussion group reflects on the many identities and enduring appeal of Jesus. Diana Butler Bass' book Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence serves as a guide and basis for discussion. The March 21 session of The Forum focused on the book and featured Butler Bass herself as a guest.

Saturdays from 10-11 am, ending May 1
The popular Saturday morning discussion group concludes its look at the collection Bread and Wine: Readings for Lent and Easter. Please read “63. Christ Rising” by Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, “64. Calvary Love” by Amy Carmichael, and “66. The Feast of Freedom” by Jürgen Moltmann ahead of the final session.

Tuesdays, April 13-May 11, 6:30-8 pm
Musicologist and singer Kerry McCarthy, PhD, who recently wrote authoritative biographies of Thomas Tallis and William Byrd, outlines the development of English choral music during the pivotal Tudor period.

Thursdays, April 15-May 6, 6:30-8 pm
The Jesus movement arose in the hills of Galilee, but quickly established itself in the large cities of the Mediterranean. Professor Larry Welborn of Fordham University, a St. Bart’s favorite, explores the lives and relationships of the ordinary believers who joined the churches established by the apostle Paul in Ephesus, Philippi, Thessalonica, and Corinth.

Wednesdays at 1 pm
Thoughtful reflection and lively discussion of the upcoming Sunday readings, hosted by the Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe. To join our Weekly Bible Study online, please contact Liz Gillespie.
