VIRTUAL WORSHIP SERVICE
"Until Love Wins – A National UU Gathering"

YouTube Worship Service
June 27, 2021

Today’s challenging times require a nimble and resilient spirituality. We need a demanding, inspiring faith and a love strong enough that it will not let us go. On Sunday, June 27, UUCR will join with UUs at this General Assembly Worship Service. Join us as we draw the circle wide, gather our strength, and promise to stay in the struggle and joy until love wins. The service will be led by Unitarian Universalist Association President Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick Gray.

You will be able to watch the service on UUCR's YouTube Channel by Sunday morning on June 27 (click here).
Come Join Us for Coffee Hour
Please come join us for UUCR & UUFE Coffee Hour at 11:00 am, on Sunday, June 27 on Zoom (click here).

Minister's Column
Special Thanks
Sometimes we need to get specific in our gratitude.

Today I want to take time to thank the outgoing board presidents, Christina Drostin (Easton) and David Biehler (Chestertown), for their remarkable and tireless leadership during the 2020-21 church year. Both have served as your presidents for the entirety of the Covid-19 challenge and both will step down June 30.

As your presidents, they have guided the congregations through a storm. There was no guidebook on how to shut-down facilities or to hold virtual annual meetings. There was no history of shared worship or cost sharing between the congregations. They were open to trying new ways. They recruited others to help them lead, asked good questions, set priorities and guided decision making. They have been gracious and effective leaders.

For me, at every turn, they were my trusted partners. Yes, Christina and Dave heard from me often. We called, texted and emailed continually. We worried together. We laughed together. And we often reminded one another it was not a time for perfect programs or taking on more, but a time to reassure and foster connection in the congregations.

In these last weeks, they have not let up. They are each wrapping up a few final board decisions and connecting with the incoming presidents, Tom Arnold (Easton) and Nancy Holland (Chestertown). Their efforts to assure smooth transitions exemplifies their consistent care for the congregations.

I will miss everything about working with you Christina and Dave. It has been a joy. Both congregations have been blessed to have you as their leaders.

In gratitude,
Rev. Sue

Social Concerns/
Social Justice Committee
Your Generosity Overfloweth
Throughout the challenges and confusion of the COVID pandemic, our congregation was unfailingly generous!  The Social Concerns Social Justice Committee (SCSJ) conducted five Outreach Collections during this past fiscal year, including Holiday Sharing, the Good Samaritan’s Winter Shelter, For All Seasons, Bayside HOYAS, and Imagination Library — all virtually! We collected a total of $3284 for causes ranging from the homeless to youth empowerment, mental health to pre-school literacy; and, as always, giving to those in need during the holidays. Our committee worked hard and you responded. For this, we remain incredibly proud of this congregation's outpouring response to the needs of others.

Amy Warner and Lynn Dolinger, SCSJ Co-Chairs

⋘⋙

On a personal note, I want to thank Amy Warner for her unfailing generosity of spirit, infinite wisdom, and just plain common sense as my co-chair of SCSJ these past few years. As she moves onto the Leadership Development Committee, I am happy to welcome Marilee Taussig as the new Co-Chair. As we move into a new church year, we welcome all who would like to be part of the SCSJ. Please don't hesitate to contact me or Marilee if you are interested in bringing your social concerns to our Committee.

Local & Online Events
The Interfaith Power & Light network has been offered a unique opportunity to be among the first to share the new short (30 min) film, Other Side of the Hill. The film will be available this summer through IPL for free congregational screenings and individual viewing at home between July 10-25.

Where can East & West, Republicans & Democrats, find the common ground needed to address climate change? How can industry and environmentalists work hand in hand? And how can local economies find opportunity in a lower-emissions future? No matter where you are located, this important story will inspire you to reach out and bridge the divide. We are more alike than we are different.

The film is a hopeful, inspiring look at local leaders on the ground in rural America who are leading climate action in their communities. But it is also about coming together, finding common ground and new climate frameworks, and shining a light on rural voices as we envision a path forward.

SAVE THE DATE. The film will be available for free online viewing July 10-25. Registration opens July 1.
