We Are A Thriving United Methodist Church
Friends,

We plan to observe the Sacrament of Holy Communion on Sunday, May 2. You will be given a small cup with a wafer and grape juice as you enter the Sanctuary. After the communion liturgy following the sermon, you will be invited to remove the first layer covering the wafer. Then you will be invited to partake of the juice, by removing the second layer, and place the cup in the hymnal rack on the pew as we conclude the service.

The Wish List is continuing to grow as folk share ideas on how we might best use the monies we were paying on the mortgage. I am looking forward to receiving more suggestions in the near future. I hope we can then have a great, robust conversation about how we might use this money to make a faithful, lasting difference. Keep those suggestions coming in!

As we slowly open up, I believe we have an opportunity to reflect on the past as we maintain what is important and faithful. But we also have the opportunity to vision of ministry that might be. I am reflecting and praying regarding new opportunities. This might be a good time to develop a ministry for us to gather in small groups for discussion, sharing, and support of each other. Your thoughts and suggestions are always appreciated.

Thank you once again for your cooperation as we begin to emerge from the Covid 19 pandemic. We request you phone in your reservation for worship services (information to track if necessary). We continue to wear masks and social distance.

GRIEF GROUP
A new grief group, facilitated by Pastor Holling, will begin Tuesday, May 11, 1:30 pm (ending no later than 3:00 pm) will continue weekly.

This group is not GriefShare (which will resume this fall) but instead will be an informal gathering of people experiencing grief who need a safe place to come and share and discuss with others some of what they are going through. There will be a theme or idea that may be the focus each week, but if the discussion leads elsewhere, so be it. Participants will build and dictate the agenda.

No registration is necessary; just come as you are able.
MISSIONS UPDATE
The Missions Team will no longer be accepting clothing to be donated to charities. All of the charities have been inundated with thousands of items because folks have been cleaning out their closets while they have been enduring the pandemic.

Some statistics worth pondering. Up to 84% of donated clothing ends up in landfills or incinerated. The rest is shredded for carpet padding, insulation, yarn, paper, or cut into rags.

The Missions Team has been fortunate because they have sent clothing to specific places. As of today, those charities don't want any more clothing. Going forward, the only items accepted will be specific items we will ask for in the future.

Here is a list of items we do need:

  • Paper towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Shampoo
  • Kitchen trash bags
  • Liquid bleach
  • Household cleaning products
  • Non-perishable food items that have not expired.

Thank you for your generosity!

AZCEND received 195 pounds of donated food from Sun Lakes United Methodist Church!

They were very excited about the amount and the types of food we brought.

Thanks to all for your support for this project!

ALTAR FLOWERS
Flowers in vase
Now that we are back to having “in-person” worship services, altar flowers are available for purchase ($50) once again. What a great way to honor or remember someone or to celebrate a special occasion!

The donor and recipient and/or occasion will be published on the screens before the service and also in the Kairos Newsletter.

To order, call the Church Office at (480) 895-8766 no later than Tuesday before the Sunday you would like to reserve. You are welcome to donate the flowers to the Church or take them home after the Sunday service. If you have no use for the vase, we like to recycle them to help keep costs down, please drop it off anytime during Church Office hours.

Thank you!
