Good News from Across the Presbytery:
Two Events Reveal Increasing Vitality and Engagement
|
|
With October, came two NCCP hosted events held at
Zephyr Point Conference Center.
The first was the 50th Jubilee Celebration of the Ethnic Concerns Consultation (ECC),
which brought together nearly 90 participants from our presbytery and across the region. Keynote speakers: Rev. Bruce Reyes Chow and Elona Street-Stuart(both former Moderators of the General Assembly), along with Poor People’s Campaign Co-Chair, Rev. Liz Theo Harris, led several panel conversations about this moment in the life of the church, a “threshold” time, in which we are starting to envision a new future that is more inclusive, diverse, welcoming of all, justice oriented with renewed commit to the poor and disenfranchised. Highlights included meaningful conversation, cultural celebration, dance, prayer and worship.
More detailed report to follow in coming months.

The second was the Pastor’s Renewal Retreat that drew 36 participants from our presbytery and from across the country. Meaningful worship, lively conversation, fireside reflections, and the beauty of nature all provided
a restful and nourishing opportunity for those serving the church in various capacities. New and old friendships were rekindled as clergy shared the joys and challenges of leading in these times.
Thanks to the participants for making the time so engaging and restorative.

Both events were a reminder of the ways God is actively at work in hearts and lives as we continue to discover who we are called to be as the body of Christ.

We welcome Rev. Deanna Hollas as our speaker.
As coordinator of the prevention of gun violence work with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, she has spent much of her time having challenging conversations and believes you don't need a trained facilitator or mediator to have a courageous conversation. With the right tools anyone can have courageous conversations. Rev. Hollas will share these tools with us so you can feel empowered to enter into the difficult, but necessary, conversations we need to be having in your church or home on a wide variety of topics.

Singing is an expression of ourselves. We sing to worship God, to show joy, and we sing to form community. Our hymns and songs help shape our theology and understanding of God and make sense of our lives.
