A Time to Break Silence:
A Collective Reading of MLK's Speech
The urgency for the radical revolution in values called for by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1967 is clearly greater now than ever. A collective reading of Dr. King's speech will remind us of his call to address poverty, racism, materialism and militarism - as relevant today as it was 50 years ago when he delivered the speech at Riverside Church. The speech reminds us of the power of non-violent direct action and calls us to "be the change" we want to see in the world.
"Woke Woodstock" is a group of local academics, activists and artists dedicated to raising awareness around, and fighting against, forms of injustice. Toward that end, we hope to empower community members with the tools they need to combat racism, sexism, and homophobia.
