Hi everyone,

We are getting a lot of questions about how we are going to make decisions about when we are going to move from one level to another in the 2021-22 reopening plan. The reality is that this is not a mathematical formula that we can just put numbers into to calculate a move. We are going to use the same process and information we used last year to determine if we were remote or in person. This system works and we had no evidence of transmission of COVID-19 in our schools last year.

There are many contributing factors that we have to consider. Sanborn Regional School District will be using a combination of the following state and local data (and any other additional information we deem appropriate):

Local number of cases: this is the data you see regarding the number of cases in the region (state, county, and community) from the NH DHHS dashboard located here:https://www.covid19.nh.gov/dashboard/map
Our knowledge of cases in our schools and community via our school nurses and reports from families (this is the most important data)
Hospital capacity in the region (the number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 and total available beds in the hospitals)

We learned last year that the state dashboard takes a few days to be updated and frequently we know of local school cases which may not appear in the dashboard data for 2-4 days.

We will rely on our nurses and administrators to provide us information and recommendations once students return to school. The Sanborn Regional School District will not be changing levels in the plan until after school begins.

The most important point is that our data is only as good as the information families share with us. If families tell us of active cases of COVID-19 we are much more likely to be successful at containing outbreaks.

We share our school day information regarding COVID-19 rates on the “21-22 COVID District Information” page of our website found here: https://www.sau17.org/Content2/512

We hope this information helps to clarify a complex problem. Please know that we have to consider many points and there is no mathematical formula that will drive these decisions.

Please don’t forget: Students must wear masks on the bus (school busses are considered public transportation).

Sincerely,

SRSD Administration
