OK, so that happened.
Was it bad for you? Did you want to smack that neighbor or cousin who said, "Oh, we never lost power. How are you doing?"
Be honest, how many times did you reach for the light switch in the bathroom? I did it 12 times in one day. Which is a whole 'nother story, not for publication.
But we made it through. Daniels had more than 2,200 calls for service and propane for generators in addition to re-hooking up ac systems in one 5-day period. Our guys both in house - and in your homes - were working overtime to meet the demand. Hopefully, we came through for you.
We do have a question for you, however. 2020 has been something of a...nightmare. So far:
January - 500 million animals died in the fires in Australia.
February - snow falls in Bagdad!
March - duh, Coronavirus.
April - US Dept. of Defense releases UFO videos!
May - George Floyd.
June - No. Korea blows up joint liaison office with So. Korea.
July - Johnny Walker will now be sold in paper bottles!
August - Football cancelled, and...and...and...

Morphos, What?
The morpho butterflies comprise many species of Neotropical
butterfly under the genus Morpho. Found mostly in South America, Mexico, and Central America, Morpho wingspans range from 3-8 inches. Many are colored in metallic shades of blue and green. Now you know what you're missing.

Avant la Lettre
Avant la lettre: is a cool expression that I have never quite had the nerve to use. Not because of anti-French sentiment, but because it never seems to look quite natural when I try it on.
I decline, with regret, to wear a cowboy hat for the same reason. But maybe you can make it-the expression-work for you.
It means, "before there was a name for [some quality or category]."
As in: "My great-uncle Llewellyn was a flower child avant la lettre."

A Tumi, or ceremonial knife, is from the
Sican culture (600-1000 CE) on the west coast of South America. These knives were common in pre-Inca cultures.
Common ones were used for mundane purposes like chopping food or performing surgery, whereas ceremonial ones like this were used for well...ahhhh....religious sacrifices.

Just A Reminder
September 7 is Labor Day.
A day when we celebrate both the value of labor and the price paid by so many to simply be appreciated for their endeavors and paid and treated accordingly.
So, as we work from the comfort of our air conditioned home offices, let us remember those who never had that chance.

(And Library) Thoughts...
We've never needed good librarians more than we do today. Go visit (or call) your library and get a recommendation on a good book or three.
We recommend: Theodore Rex, by Edmund Morris
and, The Big Goodbye, Chinatown and the Last Years of Hollywood, by Sam Wasson.
Remember those librarians had a tough time getting that job.

Qualities that unfit one for library work in general are physical weakness, deformity, poor memory, a discontented disposition, egotism, a lack of system in one's method of work, and inability or unwillingness to take responsibilities, a tendency to theorize, criticize, or gossip, inability to mind one's own business, fussiness, and long-windedness.
One librarian advocates listing the virtues and personal qualities of the staff and apprentices by having a questionnaire like the following filled out for each assistant:
Has she tact?
Has she enthusiasm?
Has she method and system?
Is she punctual?
Is she neat?
Is she kind?
Is she a good disciplinarian?
Is she sympathetic?
Is she quick?
Is she willing to wear rubber heels?
