May 29, 2020 - News & Notes
Dear St. Michael Catholic School Families:
Our staff looks forward to classes at school this fall . St. Michael Catholic School plans to re-open. There are still many unanswered questions, but our leadership team will be following all safety procedures and working with the Diocese, Minnesota Department of Health and Center for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure safety and excellence when we re-open for classes. Here is a letter from Bishop Cozzens and Catholic Schools' Office confirming their support. ( Letter for Catholic Schools )

What will be different this fall? Recommendations keep changing, but as of now we will consider options for class sizes, students staying with their class all day, specialists coming to their room, and separate lunch and recess schedules. There will be washing stations as you enter and safety checks and guidelines. Many of these practices will be put into action as we open our doors on June 15 for Summer Care. We will also be looking into live streaming classes for students who need to stay home and learn due to immunity concerns. We can't wait to be back together but will take every precaution to ensure your child's and our staff's safety.

TUITION ASSISTANCE : If you have found that your family is in need of additional tuition assistance for the 2020-21 school year, please apply at TADS.com under financial aid.

KUDOS : We celebrate our student graduates this week. They have blessed our lives and our teachers and staff send them off to continue their educational journey with prayers and blessings. We are so proud of them and know that they will carry the blues spirit with them wherever they go. GO BLUES!

THANK YOU : I want to personally thank you for extending your warm greetings and support throughout my year at St. Michael Catholic School. The dedicated staff, circle of families, and caring greater parish community connected me to all that is strong and good at St. Michael Catholic School. I will carry the St. Michael "Blues Spirit" with me as I continue to serve in my vocation. I will miss one last smile and one last hug from our students but hope to wave to you next Wednesday in our 8th grade send off parade! COVID-19 brought us closer together in our educational journey, while we remained further apart. This is not how any of us wanted to end our year. Thank you for your support and partnership. I will continue to pray for the St. Michael community and know that I leave you in good hands with Sue Kerr.

Please join us all in praying the prayer from our Bishops, shared at the right. May God bring healing to our nation in body, mind and spirit.

Blessings,  Mindy Reeder Principal   reeder@saintmpl.org

St. Michael's Offers an Award Winning Program!
Registration is now open for the Fall 2020-2021 St. Michael Robotics season. https://stmichaelsblues.sportngin.com/

The robotics program engages kids in STEM learning and prepares them for the future through hands-on fun while helping kids transfer STEM concepts to real-world applications. This year the program has partnered with Disney to bring a Star Wars theme to the program. (2020 Flier)

For centuries sports have played an integral part of our culture -- moving, collaborating, competing, celebrating. We rally around our athletes, lift them up and admire their awe-inspiring moments and stories that give us hope. The nature of traditional sports is shifting and we have the power to be forces for change and to redefine the game.

A virtual information meeting will be held on Thursday, June 11th, at 6:30 p.m.
For an invitation request, please email karnes@saintmpl.org . Registration closes
on June 30th. Payment is collected through TADS in the fall.

MENTAL HEALTH & SPIRITUAL SUPPORT
Mental Health Support: Please be aware that at this time our children are also feeling the anxiety of all that is happening around them. While school is closed, a routine is a healthy way of structuring your days. Included scheduled time for school work, outdoor play, free-choice reading, unstructured play and rest time. Address children's questions directly and honestly. Continuing with regular bed and meal times is also helpful. Limit exposure to media and screen time as well. Our School Counselor : Dr. Keri Brenden

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
