In the past few days following our sharing of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote about “the language of the unheard” related
to
George Floyd’s horrible death and the protests that followed, we have watched news of outrage, pain and destruction sweep the country. As women lawyers, many of us mothers, our hearts break as we watch these events unfold. And, as an organization dedicated to supporting women lawyers, our hearts go out to our women of color, and to their sons, daughters, fathers and mothers, and the known history of racism and violence that has surrounded them from the authorities that are supposed to protect, and to fairly and justly enforce, the rule of law. We have a shared responsibility here, and we must do better. The Chicago Coalition stands with the Black community and joins the outcry to end racial targeting and violence by the police.
