Weekly enews
Dear St. Giles Families,

Thank you to everyone who helped make our first full week together such a success! It truly was a group effort and your assistance with drop off and pick up, along with everyone’s patience, made week 1 truly special. Our Lions did an excellent job with their masks, physical distancing, and adjusting to this new school year.

We do have a few reminders for everyone:

Masks
  • Each student needs to have 2 masks available to them per day. Spare masks should be stored in a paper bag
  • Please check the fit of the masks and ensure that they cover both the nose and mouth and stay up while talking and moving around
  • Masks need to be already on as students exit cars so they are not being put on when students are on the sidewalk
Bikes
  • We love seeing so many of our Lions riding their bikes to school! As a reminder, there are bike racks both on the Columbian side and in the playground on the Linden side.
  • Everyone riding a bike must be wearing their masks as they approach campus and at the bike racks due to closer contact with others.

Lastly, as we approach Labor Day weekend, we want to make sure that everyone is practicing safe distancing, wearing masks, and avoiding large gatherings. We have had a strong opening and I know how hard it is to be away from family and friends but we know from reports in Illinois that large gatherings are cause for alarm. I, too, have been away from my family and would love to be with them, but let’s all keep each other in mind as we plan our weekend events. The Archdiocese has put together reminders for all of us to follow and you can find that information here. Let’s stay safe together!

Have a wonderful week and stay well,
Meg
Remote learning begins this week and learning while completing homework continues. As long as your child lives at home they will need a work space for learning. Remember to determine a routine, establish a space, eliminate distractions, and make a plan.  Find more details to consider when setting up a home work space here.

Remember to begin and/or end each remote or in person school day with a check in, asking questions such as: What are you learning today? What did you learn today? What movement activity did you do for your break? What was challenging? Will you show me what you have been creating/writing/making? Click here for 50 other questions to check in with your child.

Anyone who volunteers within the Archdiocese must complete an annual CANTS form. All expired accounts will be inactivated.

If you are Virtus Certified, please simply complete this CANTS form and send it back to school via [email protected] or send it with your child.

If you are NOT Virtus Certified, please go to www.virtusonline.org to register for the training. You will also need to complete the CANTS form as well as the Code of Conduct Form.
