garage Congregational Meeting This Sunday
The 147th Annual Meeting of the Congregation
This Sunday we will do what we have done every February since 1871, the year the congregation of Fourth Church was organized:

Gather for our Annual Meeting of the Congregation.

We will meet this Sunday, February 12 in the Sanctuary following the 11:00 a.m. service.

Please join us for this time to reflect on the past year at Fourth Church, look ahead to the year to come, and elect new officers to serve in various leadership roles.

Child care will be provided.

This Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.
Our Sunday School children will be joining us in worship this Sunday morning at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.!

Usually they begin their Sunday School hour with Children's Chapel worship in Buchanan Chapel, but this Sunday children age three through grade five will come to the Sanctuary and sit with their parents at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.

This is something we used to do regularly as a congregation, and so we are delighted to have the Sunday School children join us again this Sunday. Worshiping with them is an important way we live out the baptismal vows we make whenever we baptism children--which we will do this Sunday: our vows to nurture children in their faith.

We also look forward to the children getting to see baptisms this Sunday but to their experiencing in worship the larger church family to which they belong.

Our usual family worship bulletin will be available for the children to use during worship (as it is each week, as we are always glad to have children be part of the service!), and at the time of the Gloria Patri, the children will be called forward to take part in a "Liturgy of Sending" before heading to their Sunday School classrooms with their teacher.

Please join us in welcoming our Sunday School children to worship this Sunday!

threeCaring for the Caregiver
Offering Personal Self-Care Tools
Do you know anyone caring for a family member or friend who is chronically ill, disabled, or has dementia?

Care-giving, which takes many shapes and forms in today's society, can be stress-inducing for the caregiver.

Fourth Church Pastoral Care, the Center for Life and Learning, and the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being are teaming up to offer a four-week seminar that helps address this--specifically, how caregivers can care for themselves.

Each week a professional will discuss topics such as long-distance care-giving, care-giving strategies for success and redirecting difficult behaviors, family involvement, and end-of-life issues. Together we will seek to offer spiritual and personal self-care tools and communication for the caregiver on their journey.

Space is limited, so if you are interested in participating, be sure to sign up soon.

fourMeet the Author of Escape from Nigeria
Celebrating Black History Month
Next Sunday, author Maudlyne Ihejirika will be with us to talk about her book, Escape From Nigeria: A Memoir of Faith, Love, and War.

Escape from Nigeria chronicles the early life of Ihejirika's mother and her struggles to protect six small children while attending college overseas during the brutal Nigerian-Biafran War (July 1967-January 1970).

In this true, compelling, and heartrending story, readers gain a new context for understanding the current global refugee crisis and the anti-refugee backlash taking hold in American political discourse. "A riveting and heartwarming memoir," this book is, says one reviewer, "a love story, full of wisdom, pain, and unwavering optimism, a testament to the resilience and ultimate triumph of the human spirit."

We hope you will join us for this author conversation as part of our Black History Month observances.
