Participate in Research!

Diverse images of children with disabilities and their family with text that reads "Help us Pilot the ENVISAGE-SP Program"

What is it all about?

The ENVISAGE-SP Program, co-developed by health services researchers, parents, and pediatric service providers introduces service providers to a set of modern concepts, which endorse a holistic, strengths-based, function-promoting, family-centred approach to children's health and development. Through a series of five workshops, ENVISAGE-SP offers ideas and provides tools/resources to apply these concepts in everyday practice with families.

How can you help?

  • Review five ENVISAGE-SP online workshop materials
  • Complete online surveys providing feedback on the acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, usability, and utility of the ENVISAGE-SP program
  • Participate in an optional online interview to help us develop the program further

Who can participate?

Service providers who work with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities in Canada and Australia.

About My Child Screenshot

About My Child is a caregiver report tool. It can be used to collect narrative descriptions of a child and family's strengths and to document concerns related to 20 areas of child development. For each area of concern, caregivers are asked to rate the impact the concern has on a child’s ability to participate in everyday activities. These responses can be scored to provide a measure of 'health complexity' ranging from 0 to 80. About My Child has been used in research and as a clinical intake tool to facilitate discussions about and document service needs.

Effectiveness of Interventions to Promote Physical, Psychological, and Socioeconomic Well-being Outcomes of Parents of Children With Neurodevelopmental Disabilities: Protocol for a Systematic Review.

It is well recognized that parents of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities can experience a considerable burden of care associated with their child’s disability, which can potentially impact their functioning and quality of life. Historically, the intervention efforts in pediatric rehabilitation have focused primarily on the child’s development and well-being and much less on parental and family well-being. The impact that a child’s diagnosis might have on parents remains unclear, and it is unknown how we can best support parents on their journey of childhood disability. It is, therefore, important to assess the published evidence on interventions for parents of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities so that clinicians can be better informed about the ways in which families can be supported. This paper presents the protocol for a systematic review of the effectiveness of interventions aiming to improve the physical, psychological, or socioeconomic well-being of parents of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities when compared to usual care or no care.
