Food Programs keeps kids from going hungry this summer

Although we have technically been in Summer Food Program mode since the pandemic began, it's much more obvious these days, when kids, who are now officially out of school, occasionally come with their parents to the food pantry.

One young girl, who sometimes comes in with her dad, translates all the different food options for him. She patiently goes through the checklist; meat option, toilet paper, laundry soap, diapers, toiletries, etc. and translates his responses. But whenever she is asked which cereal they would like, she immediately responds on her own - no translation necessary. Her dad always gives a little nod and a smile, knowing she's making the choice. Its her fun little reward for coming.

Families with school-aged children are able to visit the food pantry every week while school is out to increase the amount of food available to feed their children. Recently we have received several donations of snack bags from some generous families wanting to give back. These bags of healthy snacks are given to our clients with kids who are super happy to see them back again. The kids love having something of their own to carry home and these bags provide them with snacks for five days.

Thanks to all of our supporters for helping to keep children from going hungry. You can learn more about donating kids snack bags here .

Donate school supplies to virtual drive

We're already thinking ahead to the start of the school year. Whether classes resume in person or virtually, students (and probably more students than ever before) will still need school supplies. You can help meet that need by participating in the Back-to-School Backpack program's virtual school supply drive. You can shop and donate from the comfort and safety of your own home.

Especially during these times, we encourage you to participate in our virtual school supply drive here.
