Online Service: Where the River Bends
(
10:30 am)
This Sunday we celebrate two of our youth who have graduated from high school and are Bridging to young adulthood. Bridging, like the many rites of passage we honor, is a time to step back and recognize a moment where the river of life bends. As our whole world moves through a rite of passage, and each of us rounds our own bend in the river, what honoring and witnessing is needed to mark our sacred passageways?

Sunday Circle and New Saturday Circle
|
Sunday Circle - 9:00 am
Since Social Distancing means we can't gather in our Fireside Room, we have evolved a Zooming Circle. See connection information below.
A volunteer leader welcomes participants, lights a chalice, and offers a reading and topic for the day, often one that has evolved from the previous week's conversation. We will have a few minutes of silence for contemplation, and then take turns responding with thoughts or asking related questions. We also make time for shared joys and concerns.
Sunday, July 19
Carol Kerr will lead us in exploring this topic:

Saturday Circle NEW!
UUCM's Sunday Circle has become so popular that we are starting a Saturday Circle at 9:00 am as well. Chalice lighting, interesting conversations, Joys and Concerns, and a bit of silent contemplation all make for a meaningful social experience.

We are beginning to gather auction items!! Our procurement letters are being proofread. Our sponsorship materials are being finalized.
A pandemic can't keep us from celebrating. It has prevented us from renting our building. It has prevented us from gathering in person. It has prevented us from partying together. It has not prevented our administrator from working tirelessly to obtain federal grants. It has not prevented our RE staff from designing Zoom programs that have continued to engage our young people. It has not prevented production of regular Sunday worship services that have attracted members and friends from across the country. Please plan to support our auction. The proceeds will help to support staff salaries.
Our online auction will span three days and is sure to be an exciting time.
Mark your calendar now. If you have some time right now, and are tired of being cooped up and sheltering alone, come join the Auction Committee as we plan this online event. We meet by Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 10:00 a.m.
We invite you to plan with us and share your ideas. You can give Joan Smith a call at 518-588-0822 or drop her a line at

This ongoing series gives us time to learn about each other from the interesting stories of individual lives
Sondra Schwartz is our featured speaker for Friday, July 24
You may know Sondra as an outstanding quilter and long-time energetic UU volunteer with RE, but you may not know about her early expertise in gymnastics, synchronized swimming and social justice work as a 15 year old member of the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE). Come hear more about her life-long career as an educator in high school classrooms and the story of being married to two Vietnam Vets (but not at the same time).
Look for Zoom link in next week's newsletter...

If interested, please contact me and I will forward directly to you. We need to have counselors and social workers, not cops in the schools! Anne Spatola amspatola@comcast.net
- Contact Sarah Tiederman sarahtpolitics@gmail.com for getting involved with writing nonpartisan postcards to encourage voting in disenfranchised communities.

UU the Vote is a National program which we are delighted to join. Our community is partnering with the nonpartisan organization Reclaim Our Vote (ROV) to write postcards and make phone calls to disenfranchised people of color in the South.
The Reclaim Our Vote Campaign was officially launched in 2018 by the
Center for Common Ground of Virginia. ROV helps people re-register and exercise their right to vote. ROV is also helping to promote safe voting practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are 16.6 million people of color who are inactive or unregistered voters in the six states ROV works in: North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arizona. Postcards and phone contacts have proven to make a tremendous difference in registrations and voter turnout.
Our members, Sarah Tiederman and Katherine DaSilva Jain, are both leading efforts to enhance voter participation. Contact them to be involved in this critical justice work.
"Showing Up for Racial Justice" SURJ Marin is committed to anti-racism work and being a white ally in the Black Lives Matter movement. If interested in furthering your understanding of systemic racism and advocating to unravel the harm it has inflicted over centuries, contact SURJ!
