If there is anything that could have made us all more grateful for our schools, for our teachers, and for creativity it has certainly been this global pandemic.
As our school year comes to an end, we have so much to reflect on and truly be proud of as we have successfully navigated uncharted waters together, even while apart. At TCAA, we want to extend our gratitude to all of you for helping us get through it and extend our regrets to those, especially to our seniors, who have missed out on some of our favorite year-end traditions.
However, we still have so much to celebrate and are looking forward to more learning and creating this fall!

TCAA Welcomes Interim Superintendent for TeSA & FWAFA
|
|
Dr. Vaughan has worked with Texas school districts for 40+ years as a teacher, administrator, a Texas school district superintendent, a school improvement monitor for campuses and districts as certified by the Texas Education Agency, as well as a publishers representative for English language arts and mathematics intervention materials.
Dr. Vaughan served ESC Region XI as a Consultant, Asst Supt of Instruction for Decatur ISD, Grand Prairie ISD as Deputy Supt of Educational Operations and the Interim Superintendent of Quitman ISD. Since retiring, Dr Vaughan has served schools across the state and nation as a consultant in school improvement, change management, RtI processes, ramping up mathematics and English language arts programs as well as enjoyed being a keynote speaker and consultant to many across the country.
Dr. Vaughan uses a consultative approach and listens to the needs of the school so that a solution can be created that will work and produce results as well as systematic improvement and systemic continuation.

TCAA Appoints New Texas Boys Choir Artistic Director

We also excitedly welcome our new Texas Boys Choir Artistic Director, Dr. Jonathan Ledger!
We are excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Ledger as our new TBC Artistic Director. He comes to us with a wealth of experience and tremendous success in leading choirs around the country. Dr. Ledger is passionate about exploring and achieving opportunities for his students. A music professional versed in many areas, including marketing, fundraising, and event planning for Music Programs, he will be a valuable asset to TCAA and TBC and we couldn't be more thrilled for him to join our family.

Even though COVID-19 shifted what Summer Camp looks like this year, we
are excited to have new creative ways to share our love of Arts and Academics with youth in our community!
From dance and theater to science and literature with coding and gaming options as well, we are certain we have an
Online Summer Experience
that your student will enjoy.
Through a combination of live online interactive experiences as well as prerecorded supplemental materials each experience will be a full week of fun.
With options for students going into grades K-12 and weeks ranging from the end of June through the end of July, we are sure you will find a camp that is right for your family. We are finishing up creating our curriculum and will send further notification as soon as registration opens but you can also keep and eye on our website for more

For intermediate to advanced level dancers, this camp will focus on ballet and jazz technique (in leveled classes) in the mornings while discovering different master classes, improvisation skills, and elements of composition in the afternoons.
For ages 8 - 19.
*In the event that COVID-19 precautions extend into August and we should have to cancel this in-person camp, full refunds will be issued to participants. We are monitoring and following all federal, state, and local guidance regarding the Coronavirus. We will keep all participants updated via email and our website.

Mrs. Grober's art students were asked to recreate a work of art or dress up like a famous work of art or artist. TeSA 2nd grader, Kenzie J. did a great job dressing up as Norman Rockwell's, "Girl with the Black Eye."

3rd Grade ELAR teacher, Ms. McNary posted an assignment in the Google Classroom for her students to create a cereal box craft. They could either make a writing journal (large or mini) or a book holder. Here are three examples of what students created.

As a surprise for her students, Ms. McNary created a Google Slide with links on the bulletin board to and end of year photo album and some letters the students wrote to their classmates to say goodbyes before Summer break.

FWAFA Senior, David Postlewate was announced "Best Male Actor in a Play" at the
Betty Lynn Buckley Awards
for his portrayal of Eugene in
Brighton Beach Memoirs. The full cast & crew from the high school play joined each other on Zoom to watch the awards and celebrate this huge accomplishment together. You can also watch David's acceptance speech here:

FWAFA Dance Teacher, Mrs. Torres and her husband, Greg welcomed their baby boy, Jameson Robert Torres into the world on May 20, 2020. He was 7 pounds and 18 inches long!

Thanks to the efforts of select parents of soon-to-be sophomores, juniors, and seniors, 650 dollars worth of sophisticated lab equipment was purchased this month for FWAFA's newest high school science course: drumroll.......
AP Chemistry, starting in the 2020-2021 school year! Dr. Polman is shown cradling (with chemistry love) one of the new "babies" - a distillation heating mantle.

Just before spring break, ninth-grade biology students began growing potatoes for a lab study. Fortuitously, Dr. Polman took the plants home, not realizing he wouldn't be back before harvest. As you can see in the picture, they are going strong, and he expects ten to fifteen russet potatoes sometime in June. There's a standard method for freeze-preserving potatoes, so he's hoping to throw a potato salad party for the new sophomores in September!

FWAFA’s International Thespian Society Troupe 6391 practiced social-distancing and held a BYOBanquet on Wednesday, May 27 on the Green Space at FWAFA to celebrate 24,400 hours of work towards theatre excellence!

Goodbyes looked a little different this year, but teachers and students were so happy to see one another, in-person, after being apart for so long!
