RCIA: A Journey into the Catholic Tradition
The “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults” (RCIA) is for men and women who want to journey deeper into the Catholic faith. Some come with little or no religious background. Some were baptized or raised in other Christian denominations and now feel called to explore Catholicism. Others are engaged to or married to Catholics and want to learn more. And some are baptized Catholics who practiced their faith up to a certain point in their lives and now wish to complete the sacraments of initiation. RCIA aims to support you wherever you are.

The 2021/2022 RCIA program will begin in late September, meeting on Wednesday evenings, both on Zoom and in person. All inquiries are welcome and will be kept confidential. For more information, contact RCIA coordinators Rob and Nadine at faith@oratorychurch.org, or one of our pastors, Fr. Mark
Lane, mlane@oratorychurch.org or Fr. Michael Callaghan, mcallaghan@oratorychurch.org.

An Appeal For Your Input On Women’s Roles in the Church
The Oratory Women’s Community, is delighted to inform you that The Women Who Stayed ministry at St. Francis Xavier Church, NYC is celebrating a Feast of Saint Phoebe liturgy. The group is requesting your input on a questionnaire they have developed. Click here to begin conversations about women’s roles.

Their project handbook focuses on women’s historic role in the Church as deacons, and their current status. Their questionnaire stems from discussions at their July meeting, and it invites input through three questions. The responses will be consolidated in their report to the Commission meeting in Rome in the fall.

Actions
  • Virtual St. Phoebe Liturgy September 3.
  • Read the history of women diaconate in the project handout.
  • Write what could be considered a 30 second response to 3 questions and contribute to the report for the Commission on Women.
  • Consider hosting a “Home Watch Party” (can be Zoom/virtual event) and conversation group on September 3.

When the Synod requested a papal commission on women, Pope Francis responded that he would pick up the challenge. Let’s join him through the St. Francis Xavier’s Feast of St. Phoebe Liturgy.

Register and email completed questionnaires to rbonadia@yahoo.com. Questions or Comments? Email oratorywomen@gmail.com.

Feast of Saint Phoebe liturgy is on Friday, September 3, at 7:00pm

Prayer to Our Lady of the Oratory
Holy Mary, Mother of God we turn to you in this time of uncertainty. Help us to walk in trust and security as we care for one another. Keep the bonds of charity strong among us when we are apart. Watch over our communities and families with your maternal care. May health and wellbeing surround the Oratory parishes and all people. Teach us to say yes to God, yes to love in our hearts, yes to the Incarnate Word in our flesh. To affirm in our minds only what is true, good and beautiful. And with our whole strengthen teach us to live as true disciples of Christ. Our Lady of the Oratory intercede for us to God that the transforming grace we need may bring us peace and joy. Amen.
