A Message from Incoming Board President Katherine Mudge

Welcome to our summer heat and Impact Austin’s new fiscal year! Seems odd, but the two events go hand in hand every year as we start summer fun, embrace the heat, and say farewell to an unprecedented 2021 year for Impact Austin. Our leadership and volunteers have been nothing short of amazing, level-headed, empathetic problem-solvers, grant-givers, and philanthropic learners. And for that, I hope that you will all give a great round of applause to Susan Palombo, our outgoing President, our current Board members, Committee leadership, and to all (and I mean ALL) of our committed and wonderful volunteers.
While this last year has been tumultuous, Impact Austin remained vigilant and focused on its Mission, Vision, and Values by making meaningful grants without fail, providing insightful educational programs to enhance our philanthropic journeys, and through virtual events that kept our members in touch with one another. We have learned to pivot, to hold major events in a virtual world, and to continue to open our collective minds and hearts to the nonprofit community. So, THANK YOU to all of you!
As we move into our new fiscal year, I am honored and humble to be your new Board President! My journey with Impact Austin has been nothing short of life-changing. I trust and hope that in these next two years I can give back to you and our nonprofit community by working with the Board, our staff, committee leadership, and each of you to keep Impact Austin moving forward and steering through whatever arises.
I am also excited to welcome and work with our six new Board members (Lillian Gray, Joanna Nolte, Earind Carter, Ricki Wax, Margaret von Flatern, and Kimberley Klein). We will learn and work together as we move into our Strategic Plan Extension. We are committed to more diversity and inclusion for our organization. We’ll continue what worked for our members and the community, and we will strive to improve in our actions. I welcome your feedback, thoughts, and ideas – never hesitate to reach out to me, because you make a difference in and to Impact Austin.
So, embrace the heat, take some time to breathe, and let’s move forward together as we make the next year with Impact Austin memorable for you and our Central Texas nonprofit community.
Joyfully looking toward the future,
Katherine

More than 200 members and guests celebrated our virtual event on June 7. Annual Meeting delivered so much content that we can't adequately recap it without sharing links to our blog and the event recording produced by C2C Media. Alternatively, you can find individual video snippets on our YouTube channel.
As it is every year, the highlight of the Annual Meeting was the introduction of our new Community Partners. Since 2020, Impact Austin has opted to split grant monies so that the organization in each focus area with the most member votes receives 80% of total funds; the other finalist receives 20%. Learn more details on our blog.

Girls Giving Grants Seeks Advisors
|
The Girls Giving Grants (g3) leadership team looks forward to a great year ahead: retaining best practices from virtual programming; returning to in-person opportunities; and a new relationship with Sadler Means School. But many long-time advisors are “retiring” after many years of service, and g3 needs at least four new advisors.
These adults do not “lead” the g3 members, but rather advise and support their assigned youth leaders. The ideal advisor will have served on an Impact Austin Grant Review Committee. Contact Girls Giving Grants for more information about responsibilities, calendar, and time commitment.

In coming months, the Zones Committee will brainstorm about fall gatherings. Their plan is to mix in-person and virtual events along with community service activities. To that end, they are interested in your feedback about Zones in general and past Zone events. If you have ideas, or if you want to join as a Zone Captain, please reach out to Coordinator Tonya Netzley.

In the weeks prior to - and in honor of - the book's release, Rebecca Powers and member Sara Pantin launched a fundraising campaign to double the size of Impact Austin's endowment. They were successful, and our endowment now exceeds $200,000!
