Welcome new and longtime members to Vista Center for the Blind’s Youth Programs! Vista Voyagers and Youth of Tomorrow is a community of students, families, educators, and vision experts dedicated to enhancing the independence and confidence of youth living with vision loss.

  1. A Day in the Life with Brain Young, biotech Medical Research Assistant 

We’ve missed all of your smiling faces and are very excited to welcome you back in person with A Day in the Life with Brian Young! Brian is a Medical Research Assistant at a local Biotech company, Ontera. Ontera is convinced that better information is needed to enhance human and environmental health in a sustainable way. They have embarked on a journey to revolutionize diagnostics. 

Youth of Tomorrow will go behind the scenes to understand the daily workings of a job in the field of life sciences. Youth will explore various lab and technician tools, hear Brian’s career path, and learn about the variety of careers available in this booming industry. A casual lunch will be provided prior to the Ontera tour to give the youth a chance to socialize with each other and Ontera employees. 

Round trip transportation to Santa Cruz is available from Vista Center, San Jose. Please keep in mind CDC recommendations and coronavirus precautions will be followed. This event is limited to 12 students. 

When: July 10 at 11:30 am. We should be back in San Jose by about 3pm.

Youth of Tomorrow: Informational Interview with a Lawyer and Teacher

Youth of Tomorrow will build on their informational interview skills by meeting an expert in the field of law and disability rights. This month we will meet Dan Hodges, a community leader and visionary in the field of disability rights. He recently completed his JD in law and is the founder of Peaces of Me Foundation, an organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma toward all chronic illness, disability and physical difference. You don’t want to miss his engaging story and hear about his career path that led to him to dedicate his life to helping others who have faced adversity.
 
Also included in the conversation is Jasmine Kotsay, an aspiring teacher who is visually impaired. She recently graduated from California State University, Los Angeles where she studied teaching and hopes to make an impact on her future students.
 
When: July 24th from 1pm - 2:30pm PST

Join us at our Super Summer BBQ Picnic & Kick-Off event “Together Again!” Enjoy fabulous food, shimmering sunshine and the perky presence of our valued Vista Center clients, friends and family. Heroically hosted by the lovable Lions Club.
