According to the Wisconsin Department of Health, four cases of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) were found in horses in Wisconsin.
Authorities say that at the end of the summer, the risk of some diseases spread by mosquitoes increases. Health officials are encouraging Wisconsin residents to use the precautionary measure “Fight the Bite.”
The EEE virus was reported in four horses in the state this year. One for each county of Monroe, Burnett, Calmette and Marquette. EEE spreads after being bitten by a mosquito that carries the virus. Mosquitoes can become infected with mosquitoes after biting an infected bird.
