December 26, 2019
What’s coming up on the church calendar in the new year? Among other things—

  • “Beloved Community: Shaping Our Lives Together,” a three-week class beginning Sunday, January 12 and exploring biblical and theological foundations for working toward racial healing, reconciliation, and justice
  • Books by Women discussing The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray on Tuesday, January 14
  • A Women at Fourth time of sharing stories over hot cocoa on Thursday, January 23
  • A “Strengthening Communication through the Enneagram” workshop on Saturday, February 8
  • The annual Gala of Hope, benefiting Chicago Lights and the Replogle Center, on Friday, March 6

What is not on the church calendar for December 29?
  • Sunday School: There is no Sunday School this weekend or on January 5; it will resume January 12

Live Streaming the 11:00 a.m. Service
We are excited to announce that beginning this Sunday, December 29 we will be live streaming our 11:00 a.m. worship service each week.

Through this outreach, members who are unable to be with us on a Sunday morning—whether due to health or transportation or travel issues—will now be able to join the worship experience that day.

And those who have work or other schedule conflicts on Sunday mornings will be able to watch the worship service later in the week. We are also excited about this extending even further our reach to people around the country—indeed, around the world.

You can watch the 11:00 a.m. service, beginning this Sunday, at www.bit.ly/FPCworship

Parking in the New Year
The 900 N. Michigan garage is increasing its parking rates for 2020. With a validation ticket picked up at the church reception desk, discounted Fourth Church parking at the 900 garage will now be $9 on Sundays and $7 on weeknights after 5:00 p.m.

At the turning of the year—this coming Tuesday evening, December 31—we will come together with neighbors for our annual New Year’s Eve service in the style of Taizé.

This quiet 7:30 p.m. service in Buchanan Chapel offers moving music, space for prayer, and meditative pause for reflecting on the year past and looking ahead to the year to come.

For those who would like an additional meditation opportunity beforehand, a labyrinth will be available in Anderson Hall between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. For those who have not walked a labyrinth previously, labyrinth hosts will be on hand to offer guidance.

Is volunteering going to be on your list of New Year’s resolutions? If so, we could use your help! Specifically, we are in particular need of individuals to

  • Help with the Book Nook during Coffee Hour following the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services
  • Create and manage spreadsheets for a church program one day a week; schedule is flexible

To learn more about these or other volunteer opportunities with Fourth Church and Chicago Lights or to sign up, please contact Robert Crouch, Director of Volunteer Ministry.
