Day 38: Jewelry In the Shadow of Long's Peak, Colorado
Destination:
Longmont, Colorado, USA
The name "Longmont" comes from Longs Peak, a prominent mountain at 14,259 feet named for explorer Stephen H. Long, that is clearly visible from Longmont, and "mont" from the French word for mountain.
The city of Longmont is at an elevation of 4,984 feet. It is 36 miles northwest of Denver, the capital of Colorado. Longmont's summers are hot and mostly clear, and the winters are very cold, dry, windy, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature is typically from 18°F to 90°F.
Fun Facts:
Downtown Longmont has been designated as one of Colorado's 23 Certified Creative Districts recognizing its status as a hub for the arts. The district includes an eclectic mix of galleries, restaurants and shops.
Also: Longmont is only 31 miles east of Estes Park, the gateway to picturesque Rocky Mountain National Park.
Art Form: Adajio Earrings by Left Hand Studios
Adajio jewerly is inspired by a diversity of imagery from ancient art of the Americas to contemporary African, Asian and European motifs. Color and texture infuse each item in the collection with a unique visual appeal.
The earrings are etched and then embellished by hand. Some components are gold plated or finished to give a bright, tarnish-free silver look.
Adajio earrings are completed with glass, metal and crystal beads along with gold-filled or sterling ear wires. The resulting jewelry is not only unique and colorful, but also lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Barbara MacCambridge, founder of Lefthand Studios,
always loved to draw
and took art classes all through school, culminating in a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She worked in California in the world of advertising and corporate design for over 10 years, but never found the work truly fulfilling.
Meanwhile, in 1995, her cousins started a small jewelry business in Colorado conceived to provide women with stylish, affordable and comfortable jewelry made in the USA. In a leap of faith she decided to join them in their new venture. In 1999 Barbara became sole owner and designer of Lefthand Studios. "Finally I could indulge my creativity and passion for design."
"Jewelry is a very personal art form, one that reflects our individuality. My passion is to design pieces that emphasize the wearer's unique personality. I sincerely hope my whimsical, colorful creations bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart!"
Left Hand Studios embraces a culture of mindful actions. Their company polices and processes are developed with the health of our customers, environment and economy in mind. All of their jewelry is hand crafted in America and their materials are purchased from US companies.
They take great care to ensure that their in-house production methods and materials are as non-toxic and environmentally friendly as possible. They don't use any harmful chemicals or materials during the production process, they are 100% wind powered and recycle everything from boxes to scrap metal.

We fell in love with Adajio earrings the first time we saw them. My sister Judy was capitivated and, like so many others, has gifted these little beauties to many of her friends. Lonnie's colorful descriptions can remove you from this rainy day and cause you to have "
