Progressive 1

This week the kids worked hard on their coordination by using the ladder, a piece of equipment used to improve footwork, coordination, agility, balance and speed and an essential part of the fitness practice for any tennis player.
The kids are improving on their forehands and backhands, and have started to identify the forehand side/technique and backhand side/technique. We have added the motion of 'forward and back'. In the video we have sent you, you can see how they use "shuffling steps" to move forward and back after each stroke. We are so happy to see great progression, practice by practice we see so much improvement in the kids!
the kids and I see a really perfect progression! Practice by practice, we see so much improvement in the kids!

Progressive 2
For the past two weeks we have spent a lot of time on the serve, and the kids have tried to serve to serve with the 'full motion'. We are planning to work on the combination of serve and return for next week, while continuing to practice the forehand and backhand technique, and try clean up any mistakes in the set up. Progressive 2 players experimented with playing the ball 'down the line' adding to their 'cross court' skills.
PROGRESSIVE 2 - Competitive
From Head Coach Mike Donski
mikedonski@acetennis.ca

We had another great week of training! The kids worked on maintaining their stroke rhythm and being consistent with their shots. This week marks the beginning of a competitive block where the kids will get to play more points in different situations. The initial emphasis is on strategy: fight to keep the ball in play, be more consistent than the opponent. The message was well received and we got to see some very competitive matches and had tons of fun!
PROGRESSIVE 3
From Head Coach Mihai Mocanu

We continued with ball control drills and introduced new technical elements into the serve motion. We have increased the number of rallies and started to play points and made it more competitive. The level of focus in the group is pretty high, so the intensity as well. Players are surprised how fast the hour goes by. This is what happens when you're having fun!
COMPETITIVE ACES
From Head Tom Pociecha
tom@acetennis.ca

Our two practices went well this week. Consistency is improving. As we are playing more full court points I'm trying to make the students aware of the most important tactical strategy; consistency. We are continuing to emphasize the fundamentals (grip, racquet preparation, impact point and recovery). Some students are having trouble with the proper grip on the volleys which is something we will continually address.
During the rally portion it has become evident that students are more comfortable with the forehand, as opposed to backhands, groundstrokes. I emphasized the importance of playing the backhand groundstroke when the ball is on the left side of their body in order to improve this stroke.

This week we continued playing "cross-court" games and we extended to full court points. Tactically, the students were asked to be consistent and to "recover" to the proper position (either behind the baseline or in front of the service line at the net).
Before the point play we spent about 15 minutes practicing the return of serve (especially starting positions and recovering after the return) as well as serve practice (focusing on proper grip, toss and ability to consistently put the serve into the service box at an appropriate speed).
HIGH SCHOOL TEAM
From Head Coach Jay Barlow

Players are working on getting more comfortable with a match style warm up - groundstrokes, volleys, serve and return. We introduced some doubles play and began to work on proper positioning and court coverage. It will take some time to get comfortable with the larger playing area and playing with a partner, but a pretty good start this week. Next week we will continue wiith these themes along with some lob/overhead training.
